GTOWhat instrument is this used for?
The light portion looks like a timing light. Has 2 leads that clip on to a battery.

kkinaIsn't it just a standard automotive timing light? There should also be an inductive clip that hooks onto your #1 cylinder wire.

GTOIt only has 2 leads. No brand name on it. Has me stumped.

kkinaIf no inductive lead, then I am also stumped.
Does it light up when you hook it up to a 12v battery?

GTOHaven't tried hooking it up. There is no positive or negative markings. Don't want to fry it.

petrIt looks like a flashlight/trouble light that you connect directly to the battery when you need it.

pbslingerI think this is a vintage timing light, possibly from the 1940s. It is connected in line with the plug wire, not to the battery with a separate third lead to the plug wire. I found a listing on ebay for "Mueller 6 volt timing light" that is similar.
Mueller may just be the only name on the thing, but really may be the manufacturer of the clips, Mueller invented the alligator clip.

Some ShotLooks like one of the very-cheap timing lights that only hooked to a sparkplug and ground. They were not bright and about had to be used in the dark. (like some past girlfriends.)

comet24That looks like an old timing light my dad had.
When I was a kid my dad had a newer one he would use and we as kids would watch. I remember seeing one that looked like that in his toolbox.

Ahh yes I remember using the chalk stick to mark the indicator line so you could see it.
