old rugged crossWasher/dryer recommendation (Appliance brad plz)
Need a basic, inexpensive (not cheap) as possible set. Electric. Not going to be a workhorse and wash ten loads a week. Something reliable. Conventional as possible. Thanks guys.

HRKWe have front loaders, top loaders will be the replacement since all the kids are gone.
Got an email from Costco, they have several appliances on sale, might be worth looking into, Whirlpool 4.3 $499.

I thought SQ had some 'reasonably' priced washers? But everything well over $1K?

TMatsWe have a Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer set. I am almost certain that it was among the brands and models that Brad has recommended in the past, and that heavily contributed to our decision to buy.
The washer is top load, but does not have an agitator post. It’s called “high efficiency,” which I think means it doesn’t use as much water as a conventional washer.
We’ve had them for the better part of 10 years without issue, and the washer does a good job.

hoochI bought a Amana TL 10 years ago and it's still going strong no problems at all, paid a little over $400 if I remember corectly.

jimmy123xWhirpool Cabrio's, Brad recommended them. I had a set that lasted well over 10 years with no issues, doing 10 loads a week (which is a lot). A standard household does 2-3 loads per week. The Cabrio's are also a lot larger than the Speed Queens enabling less loads.

Appliance BradAmana NTW4519JW and matching dryer NED/NGD4655EW
Dryer has an analog timer.
That is our #1 selling pair. The washer is their entry level Horizon platform, deployed in 2008 and well vetted at this point.
The dryer is their 29" platform which has been pretty much unchanged since the 1960's outside of adding a thermal fuse and safety thermal cut out and a change in element design which is easier to change than the old 4391960 element.

They did, until ~5 years ago.
I bought my TC5/DC5 set in 2020 for $1800 for the pair. $900 apiece. With tax and delivery it was just over $2000 OTD.
Now just over 5 years later they're $1600
per appliance. Nearly double. And that's without tax or other fees. With tax and delivery, you'd probably be looking at $3600 for a set.
Brad's suggestion of the analog Amana set for $1K is looking pretty good these days...

sourdough44I had an almost 30 year old Kenmore washer, still working. The neighbors did some upgrades, offered a few year old Maytag. I took it, gave my Kenmore away.
