My limit is $3000. Which is $300 a year if replaced every 10 years, a totally reasonable cost for something you spend 1/3 of your life on.

My current bed was $2500 and STILL amazes me almost 9 years later. Sleep like a baby and hard to get out of in the morning.

Yes, they will send people to your house to jump on your bed for you

$900 for a king size set. I can sleep anywhere and on anything so I don't splurge. Even $900 was high but that's what my wife wanted.

Never go cheap on your shoes or your mattress.

I paid 5k for the last mattress about 6-7 years ago. A good mattress is worth every single penny...

I'm on my second "bed in a box" I see no reason to spend all that money when these have been absolutely fantastic.

Like many luxury goods and the misperception of buyers at a different threshold, not even close.

Since the only stores in the US are Santa Barbara, Beverly Hills, NYC IE Upper East Side and Greenwich CT my guess is the income level is there to support the sale, I doubt you will find 24 months same as cash or rent to own options.

It's always interesting to see the comments of "stupid rich people" or "people with more money than sense" other than a lotto winner most folks with that kind of money are not morons... That thought processes is reminiscent of campaign Bernieism's

What is not clear to me is the value prop.

Is it more comfortable? Is it that these are handmade? Or better quality materials? "Ethically sourced" materials?

I just don't understand 'why' anybody would buy this bed, regardless of financial ability.

$20,000 mattresses are like buying a Rolls Royce. Maybe it is better, and more luxurious. But the price goes up quicker than the quality - marginal costs of the last increment of quality, and all that. But only people with a lot of money buy such things.

I know there are people who would think a $3000 mattress is crazy, so it is a matter of what you can spend.

I wouldn't pay $20,000 to see a gnat's ass stretched across a rain barrel.

I agree 100% with this. You buy what works for you and pay what you need to.

We spent a metric butt ton on a sleep number bed. My back and my wife's hips and knees no longer hurt when We wake up in the morning. I'd have paid double for it.

for the first 8 years of our marriage, we slept on a 15 year old mattress gifted to us when we got married. we recently got a memory foam one for $500ish and love it.

High-priced mattresses to me seem like a scam.

Someone has to have an awful lot of money and perceive that they are getting something for their money. I guess if one has enough money that it doesn’t matter and they just want to have the best, then they perceive some value in having the best. For some folks, there may be a perceptible difference in the quality of their sleep and maybe it is worth it to them. There must be a few where it is a status thing. I dunno what drives everyone else’s decisions, but you won’t be seeing me spending a fortune on a mattress.

I wonder if its like Bass boats?

Who would spend $75,000 on a fishing rig to catch
a fish that you can buy for $6.00 at the market?

RE: upper bound of rationality. We've gone Tempurpedic a couple times and felt that was money well spent. $2-3K tops.

Be prepared for sticker shock when you buy your next one.
