Why 'PHOTOBUCKET" logo across pictures?

SIGWALLYWhy 'PHOTOBUCKET" logo across pictures?
I am sure everyone but me knows the answer to this question. I have been waiting years for someone else to ask it so I won't expose myself for the idiot I am But: Why is there a PHOTOBUCKET logo across the center of a lot of the pictures on my computer? I have already put on my pointy "DUNCE" hat and am bracing myself for the "palm to forehead" answer.

sigmonkeyFolks that used PB to host images and did not drop to their knees, suck PB's dick and pay for the "privilege" have all their pics held hostage by PB.
And all the images that are linked, will display a "watermark/blurry rendition" of those images.

I wouldn't go that far. But maybe you've been living under a rock.
These issues with Photobucket have been complained about for a couple of years, at least.

darthfusterOne day without warning photobucket held everyone’s photos hostage for a confiscatory subscription sum. IIRC, you couldn’t link nor retrieve your photos. So unless you paid the fee, you lost the use of those images. Further, any images you had linked before the seizure had a lower resolution and a aggravatingly prominent watermark. This act was received worse than New Coke in the 80’s. All but a few users who were already subscribers at a far lower rate abandoned photobucket and their images. PB has only been mentioned with acidic tones ever since.

egregoreWhy do people continue to bother with Tinypic?

All you see is this:
Most noticeable - and annoying - in avatars, but also pictures in older threads.

parabellumWell, to Photobucket's credit, at least they leave the images viewable, obscured though they may be. This is not the case for other photo hosting services.

Rey HRHThere's a Chrome extension you can buy for a minimal fee (less than $3) that allows you to do a mass download of your pictures from Photobucket. It's called Photobucket Album Downloader. Then you can load the pictures to another hosting site like Imgur.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

rbert0005I'm not sure about Imgur either.
For some reason my pics on there are gone now :-(

Blume9mmwhen photoect took me hostage I had so many picture there it was too much trouble to down load them all.... I ended up downloading some and deleting (I hope) the rest...
I've been using postimages for a good while now and am so happy with them I plan to start giving them some money.

C-DubsWhen da 'bucket pulled their nonsense, I downloaded and deleted everything from there except one photo calling them an asshole.
About once a month I get an email from them telling me that I have to upgrade to their paid plan in order to host the images in my account. The 'asshole pic isn't' linked anywhwere, so they have no idea what the hell they're talking about, so I just delete the email after I chuckle about it.
After the 'bucket, I moved to TinyPic which then folded up, so I had to download everything from there again.
Still haven't joined a new photo host since TinyPic, just linking to my Googoo photo account instead.

Pipe SmokerSeveral years years ago I failed to pay the annual fee for my ImageShack photo hosting account. Even after a year or more, all of my photos were still viewable, and my avatar still appeared in forums. I couldn’t upload additional photos though.
When I finally paid up, all was fully functional again. It’s a good service for a reasonable $19/year for unlimited storage. It also provides a facility to post a reduced-size image to a forum without the bother of uploading the smaller image.

I guess the above statement is kinda' true. In the computer world I have been living under a rock. I do not own a smart phone. I own a dumb phone (a simple Track phone I use when outdoors or when driving, for emergencies only) I also don't have a "real" computer. I own an older "Mini-Mac" kind of like Web-Tv.
Since I really can't post pictures I guess I have not paid attention to the Photo Hosting fiasco that has been going on around me. My fault. The reason for not owning a smart phone or real computer is simply my current financial situation. I am a recent amputee ( Not complaining, just explaining, the VA has taken GREAT care of me) following many years of sickness an job loss.
I am doing great now. My faith, my church, my friends all is good now. Just no computer or smart phone. Something tells me I am not missing much though...

+1. ImageShack is an excellent utility for those of us on forums because of the dynamic photo resizer. It also gives html links for html sites like TimeZone. Love it. Well worth the $19 IMO. If only that I don't have to chase the free services around the web as they come to terms with the fact that free is a bad business model.

V-TailWhere are you guys getting Image Shack for $19 / year? I would like to get that.
What I'm seeing is $3.99 / month if paid monthly, or $37.99 if paid annually.

RogueJSKMany of us are grandfathered in a $19/year. That was the price back during the Great Photobucket Apocalypse in June 2017. A number of us switched to Imageshack at that time, and they haven't raised the price on us since. Every June I get another renewal request for $19.
It's well worth $19/year, or even $38/year.
