If you have a property in another state that you are legally responsible for keeping secure what options are there for doing so if going there on a regular basis to do it in person is not practical.

M,

Is there an internet connection full time? Something like a cheap pay as you go phone with data tethering? Electricity to keep the phone charged?

If so I just ordered one of these systems. No monitoring service required, but can be added if you choose. It can be programed to call multiple numbers. They recommend the control pad and siren be plugged into 120v AC. You can monitor through a smart phone APP and there are no fees.

also got a set of Arlo wireless cameras to go with it. They don't integrate, but I am ok with that. Also can be monitored through smart phone APP with no fees for certain things. More storage and other options are fee based.

If you don't have cell/internet or regular power, I used this system until I get the one mentioned above in this coming week. Woks with a 12v DC battery. It is nothing more than a siren to scare them off. Thats about it.

Edit to add: A small 10w solar panel and charge controller have kept the battery for the cabin alarm charged for the last year and would probably run a small inverter to charge the cell phone or hotspot for the above alarm system.

So what are your power and internet options there? Or did I read it wrong and you're talking about hardening the place? If you want to ask more detailed info, you know the digits!

D

I own 44 acres in Fla, it’s just covered in trees but we have had people dump stuff on the land...and my bro encountered a trespasser who was riding horses across the land damaging trees....we found a man who grew up with my mom. Roland has been given free reign to hunt and do as he sees fit for keeping an eye on the property. Since he lives less than a mile away the problems have gone away.(especially after my bro prosecuted the trespasser)

With WiFi? We just set up 6 ring cameras on a property that is across the country. Just got back to our home state and checked everything out. Looking good so far. There’s also a neighbor that checks on things periodically.

House, acreage, hunting, what kind of property?

You aren't there and whomever caused the problems will be long gone.

Where? There are areas where people think they are entitled to use a piece of property because their daddy's daddy used to and know one cared.

I've known people who kept a key to their cabin in one of those break glass in case of emergency enclosures along with a note outside the door. The note said something like, there's nothing of value inside, but if you must go in, please lockup when you leave.

Alarm systems are ok, but we have property where the response time on a good day is 40 minutes. Cameras are ok until they get stolen. Internet cameras are fun. You can get mad and shake your fist while you watch someone use your property hundreds of miles away.

Gates, fences. We had hunting property in an area with nothing but other hunting properties. There were three locked gates to go through on the four miles of dirt two tracks to get there. The joke was the combinations were the worst kept secret because everyone and his brother knew them. We found bait piles in the summer (non-hunting season) on the property in a back corner surrounded by marsh on three sides.

Don't leave anything of value.
Have insurance on equipment and structures.

Don't talk to people about your stuff. This is important. Don't tell people at the local diner about your big garage full of whatever it's full of. Word gets around. Don't tell the people you hired to do work about how your are only there 2 months and gone the rest of the time. Don't tell people where it is, what it is, when you are there and not there.

Mark your stuff, record serial numbers, etc.

That's how one of my best friends handled it for the 200 acres he has up north.

He'd like to put some surveillance in around the cabin, as well, but there's no power and only somewhat marginal wireless from only one carrier available.

While not another state I don’t get to my property as much as I would like.

Current situation is I have a few strategically placed game cams that I download whenever there.
This will be swapped over to an Arlo system now that cell signal is somewhat available.

I have a cousin that lives close by and keeps an eye out for me.

I also made friends with the local game warden that goes by frequently.
