"we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches
Making the best of what ever comes our way
Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition
Plowing straight ahead come what may

If that's true, how come nobody ever stood on the bow of a boat, threw a lead line over, and shouted "Samuel Clemens?"

Do you know why he took the name Mark Twain?

When an cub Pilot mariner on the Mississippi, Sam Clemens often heard the sailer with the log calling the water depth at the bow. The call "Mark Twain" means "two marks" or knots on the log (rope) indicating two fathoms or 12 feet, safe for the paddle boat to pass.
When he became a writer, he took Mark Twain as his name, reputedly because he loved the sound of the words being called.

“If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected .”
