Get my pies outta the oven! |
I deactivated my Facebook account 2+ years ago except for the messenger function which I kept active because I still use it to communicate with a couple of guys I made friends on there who all share the same political persuasion. I noticed starting around yesterday I was no longer able to share a link to a tweet on Twitter to FB Messenger? Googling the issue reveals nothing, has anyone else seen this? Just wondering if this is some new Twitter policy or it’s just a glitch. And it looks like here when I embed a tweet for people to read, unless you are logged in with a Twitter account, you can no longer go to the tweet and read the full thing? WTF

It "may" be because of a new limit imposed by twatter: TECH Elon Musk says Twitter will temporarily limit number of posts users can view per day, citing ‘system manipulation’ __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/

Something is definitely amiss If I’m not able to share out links to people, why should I bother using it? If you share out a Fox News link, you aren’t required to be a Fox News subscriber?

Pretty sure this is some new 'fucked up' policy from Twitter. I tried to watch Tucker Carlson's most recent episode of 'Tucker on Twitter' Friday PM. Of course, because I haven't been logged in to Twitter for about 1.5 years (haven't had to, don't really want to), when I 'tried' to log in I got the "In order to protect your account from suspicious activity, we've sent a confirmation code to..." message. I've yet to receive that email with the Confirmation Code. I've tried to log in on multiple browsers since then, multiple times...And ZERO emails from Twitter! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Messenger is spyware. I use Facebook but not their app specifically to not us Messenger. If I were you I'd use email or regular text messaging.

If you’re all of the same political persuasion, then I would try to get them to migrate to Signal. Facebook Messenger is absolutely not your friend. Everyone is pointing the finger at Twitter on this one, but I suspect it’s actually Messenger at fault. I just a friend a link to this bullshit over Signal, worked fine: https://twitter.com/GuntherEag...654002476830720?s=20 ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

I just confirmed that I can no longer view Twitter embeds here unless I am logged into Twitter with an account. I was wondering why some members were starting to complain why Twitter embeds were being posted that they cannot view, this was NOT the case before last week. IMO it's a dumb move but what do I know?

If that's the case... Just my opinion, this has nothing to do with messenger and never did, it's all on Musk and twatter. Should be interesting going forward though, because Musk says it "temporary" to weed out web scrapers... __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/

Pretty sure you can view Twitter embeds (certainly here on SF)...You just can't Embed a tweet because you can't access Twitter w/o being logged in. Obviously this would apply to clicking on a link, but that's not a 'Twitter embed'. Here's one... If you can't see the 'Embedded Tweet' above, either it's a setting on your browser (I can view it using both Brave AND Firefox), or it's likely the Facebook 'spyware' (a.k.a. 'Messenger') you've got installed on your device. I can't vouch for how the Twitter app, if that's installed, might affect this if you were not logged in, but pretty much nobody logs out of such an app on their phone anyway, and if you're doing that, you're doin' it wrong! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Thank you Very little |
Meta aka Facebook announced a new service like Twitter to be forthcoming. Would not be surprised at all if FB was messing around with Twitter imbeds, or visa versa. Just sent an imbedded Twitter link via FB messenger, then again I'm logged into both services.

Well, I'm not sure what you confirmed, but I don't have a Twitter account and can view Twitter embeds here just fine. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

Today or soon after, Zuck is launching his Twitter competitive app called Threads. That may be the reason why Facebook is locking out Twitter. I wonder if Zuck would have launched a competing app as soon as he did if Twitter was not taken over by Elon who apparently has less Democratic / Leftist Liberal leanings than silicon valley constituents. I bring up the political aspect because social media has been political. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." You are right and I can see the embeds here. I was trying to go to some saved Twitter links on a PC where I was not logged into Twitter and it will not open them like before, takes you right to a login page.

Every time I go to a Fox "News" link I get presented with a request (demand, actually) to turn off my ad blocking before it'll let me see the content. I look at what my browser and uBlock Origin are blocking: Not adverts, but, stuff with abusive tracking cookies and the like. So, no: I cannot view Fox "News" content, because I refuse to go along with that. As for Twitter: I see and view Twitter content via links all the time. Random tweet from my Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/DrBrandonP.../1676557818109755393 I just copied and pasted it from my Twitter login, in a private Brave window, to a Chrome tab, and Chrome's running through a private VPN. So: Different browser, different IP address. No problem. Oh, I also made sure Chrome had no existing old Twitter cookies, either. Given Meta/Facebook's history, I'd suspect them before I'd suspect anybody else. As somebody else noted: Stop using that crap. Facebook/Meta may be one of the least trustworthy actors on the Internet, IMO. There is a plethora of messaging apps that don't invade your privacy or play games with you. They're brazen about it, too. When Apple discovered Meta/Facebook was mining user data they weren't, by terms of their agreement with Apple, supposed to be looking at, and Apple announced they were going to put additional safeguards in place to prohibit that, Meta/Facebook threatened to pull their app from iOS/iPadOS. That's right: They publicly announced they were going to pull their app because they were going to be prevented from mining the data they'd signed a contract agreeing not to mine. It's too late to work within the system,,,, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe "If we let things terrify us, life will not be worth living." -- Seneca the Younger, Roman Stoic philosopher
