I just married my younger daughter off a couple of weeks ago, and I was surprised she had a turntable on her gift registry. She didn’t want a full system, but an actual record player. She has a very small collection now, but I will add to it with purchases and suggestions. She grew up with my hifi system where I got rid of vinyl when she was young. From there she did CD’s, but mostly MP3’s from online sites I’m proud of her choosing this old format entirely on her own. I would have thought she may have been influenced by her new hubby, but it was all her. As for me, I will remain with CDs, ripped CDs and streaming. Retired Texas Lawman

couple times a month. If an artist presses it, I will buy it directly from them. I have multiple format versions from musician friends and favorite artists. Not to save my life; it would have been about thirty-five years ago. But I still have all of them, plus some of my father's. I have about three hundred albums, and have recently begun to spin platters again. My fifty-year-old Benjamin Miracord is still running strong. Gotta love that German engineering.

Many years ago, I was stationed in Germany. I was solicited for a record club, it was 10 bucks and you only had to buy 10 albums over the next year at regular club prices. Once you signed up, you could get your first order for a penny each. I saw the shipping address was from NYC, and my mail came thru APO NYC. 1 ordered 200 or so, 10 at regular club and the rest for a penny each, and shipping was a very small amount from one NY zip to another. My wife had just bought me a reel to reel tape player, so I opened each one, played them once as I recorded both reel and cassette, and packed them away. We found them last year on our hopefully final year. So, I have several boxes containing albums from the mid to late 70's, and a few older ones like Dylan stuff. The down side is they're all record club editions, and worth very little.

Live for today. Tomorrow will cost more |
Back in the late '70's / early '80's, I was in a fun-spirited contest with a bunch of my friends, to see who could give the worst 'white elephant' Christmas present to another. I firmly believe that this contest spawned the Ugly Christmas Sweater contests that followed... One of the rules was that it had to be something that they could conceivably use - IOW gifting a rear bumper to a '66 Chevelle to someone that didn't have a drivers license was not within the spirit of the game. Anyway, in 1981, I drew the name of one of my oldest friends, a confirmed audiophile and dedicated hard rock enthusiast. Not sure, I’ve bought a fair amount of vinyl in the last two years: new copy of Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, new copy of Kiko, Los Lobos, Hendrix, Both Sides of the Sky, SRV In Step, and the ZOSO album all come to mind. _______________________________________________________ despite them

Live long and prosper |
When CDs appeared in Europe (1985?) they were sort of expensive and it was a weird market. Very few players and AFAIK there was one company pressing them in Europe and another in Japan. They were launching a mix of the whole music catalogue and current hits and new releases. All in limited quantities. Back then, i was buying 2 or 3 vinyls a week. As soon as could afford the switch, $1k the cheapest brand name player, i switched to CD Ñs with mixed results. Some early mixes had more hiss than music. By 1987 i had 200 of them Too long ago. It would have been before 1985, so, no, I don't remember. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

I just bought in the last few months the George Thorogood and the Destroyers Boston Concert on vinyl, and on CD for playing in the car. Best regards, Nick. NRA Life Member and Certified Instructor

I remember very well riding my BMX bike to the Walmart in Huntsville Arkansas in March of 1983 and buying this with birthday money. You might laugh, but this record changed the direction of a 10 year old boy's life. Those opening chords are accessible and easy to learn, and made me never want to sit at a piano again. Everything went to cassette after that. But I think I still have it in a box somewhere. _________________________ You do NOT have the right to never be offended.
