Black92LXSore Throat remedies??????
I don’t get a lot of sore throats and when I do they are pretty light. A Ludens Cherry (in the box) does just fine.
Not this time this sore throat is something fierce! Ludens helps a touch but not much.
The soreness is constant and have to brace for every swallow.

joatmonvGet a small glass and run your water to about as hot as you can stand it. You don't want it boiling as this water will be in your mouth.
After you have decided how hot the water needs to be, dump in some table salt. As salty as you can take. Stir with a spoon and gargle that a few times.
Always helped me and I did this earlier this week with a sore throat. Hope this helps.

arfmelYou may have strep throat. Might go get it swabbed-they’ll prescribe some antibiotics if it is strep.
For OTC stuff, the Zand Lemon Zinc Herbalozenges are pretty effective but they are kind of nasty tasting. Worthwhile if your throat is really bothersome.

kkinaI woke up with a sore throat yesterday. I gargled with warm salt water for immediate relief, then took one pill of
this. Today I feel completely fine. (Very popular traditional Chinese herbal remedy with the reputation, "Cured with one pill". If you catch it early enough, it often does take just a single small dose.)

MagicHorseThe gargling with salt water will help soothe it. I have good luck with colloidal silver & zinc throat spray for helping it go away faster. I use the combo together. Salt water gargle morning & night & the throat spray as needed throughout the day. I also keep a mint of some sort in my mouth almost 24/7 cos it seems to keep my throat moist so it doesn't feel so raw.

maxwayneI have always liked Chloraseptic. I started with the green, but now use red. A sip of Canadian whiskey and hot tea also help.

birddog1I always gargle with Listerine when I have a sore throat. In fact, I gargle with it every night before bed to ward off any sickness. But it has to be the original brown listerine, powerful stuff

chongosuerteDon't ignore the value of an anti-inflammatory.
I'm a big fan of gargled hot salt water, Fishermen Friend's throat lozenges, a hot toddy with honey, and chloroseptic as a last result.
Basically what everyone else has already said.
Except add in a sold dose of Ibuprofen every 4 hours. And most of the rest of those things contain a not-insignificant amount of sugar, so keep that in mind if it matters (though the Fishermen's Friends can be found in sugar free, you'll probably have to order them.)
Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.
Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

comet24When I get sick it's usually a sinus infection which lead to drainage which give me a soar throat. I've used the Ludens Cherry and some others they don't do much. Hot greasy foods seem to be easier to go down.
If it's that bad and doesn't get better in a day or two I would get in and see a doc. Could be strep throat. The good thing with strep, with antibiotics you feel much better in 24 hours.
If it's a standard cold you will have to let it runs its course though.

StorminNorminI can’t think of which brand it is, but get the sore throat spray with lidocaine or benzocaine in it. Many of the already offered options help as well, but for temporary relief of the pain that throat spray works.

maladatChloraseptic works surprisingly well. It is available as both a spray and as lozenges. Depending on the specific product, it has either phenol or benzocaine in it and numbs the throat almost instantly.

ensigmaticDo you know
why you have a sore throat?
I occasionally get a sore throat for a reason similar to what member comet24 described: Sinus' draining into my throat.
When that happens to me I've found that addressing the source of the problem is the best cure, but, in the meantime I've found Rikola Original Natural Herb Cough Drops work wonders.

kx90When my son was little he would get Strep throat almost monthly. Well one time I caught it and I was pretty sure I would never eat or drink ever again, in fact breathing hurt more than it was worth.
I started to drink Children’s Motrin like it was water, worked like a charm. Called the doc and he called in antibiotics for me.

mike28wNothing wrong with home remedies , but if you're having to brace yourself with every swallow.... IMO , it's time to see a doc. He will probably do a throat swab and test for Strep throat.
If your throat feels like it's beginning to swell up and you're having difficulty breathing or swallowing...then I suggest that you get your butt directly to a doc or ER.
Trivia...there are some medical historians that think that George Washington died of a Strep throat ( and the medical treatment he got that didn't help..... it was mostly bloodletting ). Yikes !
