Well Samsung thinks it is. Witness the new Samsung Fold, one of the most interesting cellphones I'll never own.

Not on my planet.

My friend's bother still uses his digital Startac. He bought a smartphone and it thoroughly baffles him.

A phone that folds into a tablet...cool.

A phone that can multi-task your Google map of San Fran and the poop app at the same time?

Priceless! Big Grin

Pretty slick though I have no use for it.
Though I thought the stage/screen for the presentation was really slick.

I think the takeaway here is that this 'Flip' phone, given its design and software, is a huge departure from the current cellphone paradigm we've seen for a number of years. How it impacts the rest of the cellular market remains to be seen, but it will be interesting to see 'if' its successful, what it does to other players like Apple, whose design and innovations have slowed. And Samsung is not the only manufacturer bringing a foldable cellphone to market this year...

Personally, it doesn't directly impact me given I have a ceiling of around $500-$700 maximum for my cellular purchases. How this phone might impact phones in that price range somewhere down the road however remains to be seen.

Impressive phone, but how long will it last? I barely get 2 years usage on current non removable battery phones.

I wouldn’t call it a $2,000.00 cellphone...I’d call it a $2,000.00 foldable computer with, by the way, mobile phone functionality.

It doesn’t look very practical.

... let’s let Apple perfect it and see where we’re at then.
