Jaguar Land Rover Halts US Shipments in Response to 25 Percent Auto Tariff British automaker Jaguar Land Rover has announced a temporary pause in vehicle shipments to the United States, citing the need to reassess operations following the Trump administration’s newly implemented 25 percent tariff on vehicle imports. “The USA is an important market for JLR’s luxury brands,” the company said in an emailed statement to The Epoch Times. “As we work to address the new trading terms with our business partners, we are taking some short-term actions including a shipment pause in April, as we develop our mid-to-longer term plans.” British carmakers, including Jaguar, exported $10.7 billion in vehicles to the U.S. market over the 12 months ending in September, making automobiles the UK’s largest goods export to the United States, according to official data. Jaguar’s announcement follows President Donald Trump’s sweeping trade measures unveiled last week, which included a 25 percent tariff on all auto imports and parts. In a subsequent April 2 address from the White House, the president declared an economic emergency and introduced a broader 10 percent tariff on nearly all imports, with elevated duties for about 60 countries labeled “worst offenders” in trade imbalances with the United States. China topped that list. The auto tariffs, which took effect April 3, have already prompted industry-wide reactions. Stellantis announced a production halt at two of its assembly plants in Canada and Mexico, triggering temporary layoffs at U.S. facilities in Indiana and Michigan. California hipsters roll into a fetal ball in response. I wouldn’t buy a modern US legal Land Rover ven if I had the money. Nice is overrated "It's every freedom-loving individual's duty to lie to the government." Airsoftguy, June 29, 2018

I'm sure the dealers won't notice since Jaguar is one of the worst selling brands in the US. It'll probably give them time to fix all the Land Rovers sitting in their garages that are broken.

Keeping poorly made products out of the USA. Sounds like a win for tariffs.

When we were in the UK, I was struck by the few American cars there. Apparently, there is a luxury tax on American cars, and only a very few, very wealthy, will pay it to drive…Corvettes, Cads, etc. I note that the Trump tariffs don’t even match the highest trade barriers. If the tariff on American is 10%, then the new tariff on our end is 10%. If the tariff on American is 45%, the new tariff is 23% on our end. The pain we feel in our investment portfolio is real, and we’re concerned, but President Trump is right to say, “Enough is enough.” In many cases the U.S. is not even matching the barriers to American goods. _______________________________________________________ despite them

Jaguar has always been a fake luxury brand. Consumer Reports always has given them low marks. I just happened to see an episode of Mad Men the other day and they were wanting their first car to market and the only one they had a shot at was Jaguar and even then they were trying to figure out how to market a turd.

My uncle had a Citron, I don't think I ever seen him drive it in all the years he had it. I never could see the attraction.

Well they're owned by Tata Motors now, so meh? DO Americans even buy these thing still? Land Rover died with the Discovery with me. If it's not an old Defender 110, it's not worth having. ![]() He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.

Fox Business reported yesterday or the day before that Jaguar Land Rover are sitting on a 400 day inventory in this country, even worse than Alfa Romeo, which was at about 250 days last I checked. That means they're just now selling off the last of their unsold 2023 vehicles while better car companies are about to introduce their 2026 lines. Faguar fucked themselves with that weird ad earlier this year and Land Rover seems intent on selling electric trucks. Both companies deserve to suffer, but I think management views the tariff as a chance to recover from their blunders. Personally, I have no need for nor desire to buy a truck, no matter who makes it. I've been a small-sedan and sportscar guy since I became aware of cars in the late 1950's. I owned three SUV's when I was commuting 75 miles each way in Illinois winters 25 year ago, and a pickup when I was towing my race car 50 years ago. In more normal parts of my life, I drove sportscars and small sedans, and I'm back to the small sedans now. We can't sell trucks in Europe or Asia, for all practical purposes, because they take up too much room and handle like shit. We can't sell American sedans in either market because they, too, handle like shit when compared to European or Asian cars. Now, Ford, GM and Chrysler (OK, Stellantis) are truck companies, selling pickups and SUV's with major components made in Mexico, China, wherever. Getting production of American vehicles back to America won't save them, even within the US, if they only want to sell oversized and overpriced luxo-barges. /rant off/ -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I have always admired their styling and there is no doubt that they have made some beautiful vehicles throughout their history however I have never considered buying one. Their reputation for constant problems is legendary so I will pass. "Momma say's the pistol is the Devil's right hand."

I do think Jag's styling is sleek. I've worked on a couple when they showed up at one shop I worked at in the late 90's Spent pretty much all day upside down replacing a water pump on one, crazy expensive too for parts. I would not want to work on them exclusively.
