The CFO has given me permission to upgrade our existing Cabellas spotting scope and I can get a pretty good discount on Vortex so I am leaning that way.

We will be primarily using it for game spotting on our trip to Yellowstone later this year.

Is the Vortex Razor HD really worth the premium? Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

While I don't have a Vortex spotting scope (yet), I do have a pair of their binoculars and two rifle scopes, all from their Razor HD line. With a fair discount, they are totally worth the money. All three have very good clarity and color to me.

Also, their warranty is outstanding. You will find few companies that will stand behind their products as much as Vortex.

I have the Razor HD 27-60x85 Angled. It has been flawless . The glass is very good. Bright, clear and very sharp under low light. Have had mine for about 4 years. I do not think you could go wrong with one.

That was the one I was looking at. Thank you for the review.

As I said in an earlier thread. Got some really good service from them.
But buying new and spending big $ for a Chinese made spotting scope is not something I would do.
Probably buy a used Swarovski for the same $.

Check outthe Rokslide classifieds.

Depends on your budget and what you want to see.
If you ever expect to spend much time behind the glass you want the best. Eye strain from fighting poor optics is real. However if you just want to watch a wolf for 10 minutes you can save money on lesser quality.

I got very quick response from them on a couple email questions last summer. They seem to excel at the customer service and support aspect of the business.

I echo ragman's experience. I love mine.

I spend a fair amount of time behind spotters, Vortex Razors, Vipers and a Hensoldt 60. For the average person, either the Razor or Viper will do the job.

I use the Razor line of scopes on several of my rifles and feel the value for money spent and their customer service is beyond most of what their competitors offer.

While I have never had an issue that required my using their warranty, I do have a fellow shooter who dropped his spotter, called Vortex and offered to pay for in the necessary repairs. Vortex sent him a shipping label, repaired the spotter and shipped it back to him at no charge. I’ve heard of others having the same quality of service regarding repairs and warranty work so this was not an isolated case. Vortex is GTG in my experience; buy with confidence.

Thanks Q, Japan is good. So buying a Razor spotting scope sounds like a good plan.

I know that at a point some of their Razor bino's where made in China. I have some early Razor bino's that are Japanese made and are excellent.

Vortex, as a brand, are getting a lot of range time here in UK - great optics in their HD range, without Swarovski prices, and AM service like no other, except maybe Leupold - IF you live in the US of A that ism for the Leupold products..

My next scope will be a Vortex brand product, for sure.
