Rocks in shower floor

Anyone have this? Seems to be the new thing, river rock on the shower floor. Obviously you would use smooth rock for this, but it still seems it would be uncomfortable on your feet.

JDHunzI haven't seen bare/exposed rocks, but I have seen river rock and then a sand like filler/grout used to fill in the rest. Then a clear coat of some kind over it to smooth out the surface.

GustoferLooks like a PITA to keep clean. Lots of nooks and crannies for creepy-crawlies to live.

Chris42We have 4" square tiles that are Matt glazed, textured, semi-smooth in earth tones of reds, browns and grays. None are set perfectly with each other so it feels a little like a cobble stone street. No harder to keep clean than any other tile floor. I am very pleased with it.

WishboneWe have it and I like it alot. The rocks are shaved so they lay flat so to speak. And its easy to keep clean. I would post pictures but photobucket.

It is uncomfortable. It's a pain in the rear to keep clean, and can be slippery with the sealer put on, and the outcome of the job HIGHLY depends on the installer........PASS

steve495We have had it for a few years. No problems with cleaning at all. It's cleaned properly once every 14 days. Our's is very comfortable to stand on.
We have a frameless, glass shower door and the corners of that are tougher to clean. We have hard water, but we do have a softener.
Ensure you find and use the right mortar for the installation and an installer who knows what they are doing! The darker sections of the rock show below is just still wet after use.

dsietsMy sister has it in their guest bathroom shower. It's similar to what Steve posted but not all black.
I liked it. It was functional and looked attractive. I didn't really notice it after a minute or two and did not feel slippery.

gloucestermenI worked for Joan Baez back around 1982 on a home in the Santa Cruz Mountains just outside Palo Alto. She had a custom bath tub done with smooth river rock. It was very cool to say the least the rocks were very smooth and the window next to the tub overlooked the whole bay area. Really sweet lady, her Mom lived down in Palo Alto and I worked for her as well. Nice folks!

MtnPlinkerI have to clean every 4 days to keep the black mold dots at bay. Man card lost. Choose another sheower flour if possible.

ChicagoSigManWe have it in one shower. It's not uncomfortable on the feet at all. It doesn't seems to require any more effort to clean. I would do it again if I were building another house.
