Wife is wanting to go to St Kitts for a few days next month. Has anybody been there and if so have any recommendations or tips on what to do or avoid there?

Thanks.

Ex co-worker used to go there regularly, every year or so. His advice? "Bring plenty of money."

I was there for a carrier convention just before the Covid shutdown. But I stayed at a resort for almost every minute of the week. I think it was the Marriott Resort. Only time outside was for a snorkeling trip. It was very windy most of the time, so much so that I never bothered going to the beach. Even sitting at the outdoor bars, you had to hold or weight everything down. Very scenic waters though. I didn't have to pay for anything at the resort, but I heard from some co-workers who ventured out that everything was ridiculously expensive. Like Scandanavia expensive.

I've been there twice. Once as a young man and perused all the bars and took a booze-cruise to Nevis.

Last time with my family and kids probably 8 years ago. The Brimstone Fortress is very cool and is a 1/2 day trip. Turtle beach can be nice. IIRC, if you go to the north side, you can drive along a peninsula and on 1 side is the Atlantic, the other, the Gulf. Nice beaches up there.

Other than that, it's a place you go for peace and quiet, beach and family time. it's not Maui by any stretch. Or at least it wasn't...

It was the most disappointing of all the Caribbean Islands I have ever been to.

Why? What’s her fascination with Kitts? There are many better Caribbean choices & Kitts is far from the top of the list?

No fascination just a place we picked to go to. Had looked at Providenciales but St Kitts looked intriguing and has a nice Marriott resort right on the beach. Seems reasonably priced compared to some of the other islands.

Does anybody have other suggestions on other islands?

I've been to St. Kitts twice, including a side trip to Nevis Royal Plantation Resort for a few days. Stayed at the Marriott on St. Kitts the remainder of the time. The highlight of Kitts was the trek up the volcano, accompanied by a large swath of mongooses (mongeese?)

I agree with the comments that St. Kitts is near the bottom of the islands I would visit regardless of one's interests. Where else to go depends on what you want to do... Simply sunbathe? Scuba dive? Cuisine oriented?

Turks and caicos is nice.

Went to St. Thomas a handful of times. Havent been back since they were devastated by the hurricane.

St. John's is the place to be if you have the cash.

Caymens are really nice but expensive. They have a cool turtle rescue park there.

I visited Grand Cayman in 2009 as part of a Caribbean cruise. One location visited was the Turtle place. Some photos of it here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/...s/72157622753863765/

We've been to the Caymans and the Bahamas. Also looking at Aruba now. Has anybody been to Aruba?

Thanks again.

Interested in hearing about Aruba. Supposed to be going there in early 2024.
Specifically golf and fly fishing as well as places to escape my in-laws.

My wife and I had our honeymoon in Aruba six years ago. We researched all the hotels and one of the best beaches in the Caribbean is Eagle Beach in Aruba. It is private and you have to stay at one of the hotels that has access to it. We stayed at Bucuti & Tara. Ok hotel, not really a resort but the beach was awesome. Not crowded and very clean. This was the low rise hotel area compared to the large high rise hotel area which looked to be very crowded. There are lots of good restaurants and the place is very safe.

I’ve been to Aruba. Beautiful beaches and warm blue water. Very warm when you’re away from the beach.

I've also been to Aruba twice. Great place to relax on the beach, sunbathe and easy to snorkel for beginners. Not much to see from a Scuba perspective. Aruba is essentially a desert isle with one small town.

Again I ask, what is it you want to do in the Caribbean? Just naming islands and asking SF members if they've been there is like asking should you buy a certain firearm w/o knowing what its purpose is for.

Well we are just going to celebrate a milestone birthday for my wife. Beach, some snorkeling and hiking are the types of things she wants to do. She wants to be on the beach, and I'm trying to use some Hilton or Marriott points to help pay for it. Just the normal touristy stuff.

Aruba is more for those looking for quiet relaxation. If you haven’t been, well worth considering.

Shit, now I'm gonna have this song in my head all day...

Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on, pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby, why don't we go?
Ooh, I wanna take you down to Kokomo
We'll get there fast and then we'll take it slow
That's where we wanna go, way down in Kokomo

I’ve been to Aruba. It was OK. The non-stop wind gets old pretty fast, especially when you’re on the beach. Even when it’s not whipping your face, it’s getting into every nook and cranny of you and your stuff.

Even though it’s pricey, we much preferred the Cayman Islands. So much so that we went several times. Seven Mile Beach is one of the best in the world.

Caveat: They used to have strict building limits that prohibited high rises. A few years ago a developer managed to have that law eliminated. The last time we went (2016), there was lots of construction going on building a number of towers. We assumed once they were built, crowds would follow, so we haven’t gone back.

Spent several weeks on Saint John and Virgin Gorda before the hurricanes. It is my understanding that the Rockefellers have sold their resorts. First class all the way. The price kept out the Riff Raff and children. Gourmet meals and total peace and quiet.
