Elk HunterI enlisted in 1955, age 17. Wanted to be a "tanker" but enlistment NCO sent me as unassigned, so I ended up in the armored infantry. Got transferred into communications (053) where I spent several years (9?) frozen in grade. Made E5 pretty quickly (from E3 to E5 in 9 months. Spent the next 9 years, or so, at that grade. MOS was frozen, so????
Decided to get out after a total of 11 years. They promoted me to E6 by illegally changing my MOS, trying to get me to Re-enlist. No dice. Some times I wonder what would have happened had I chosen to re-up, but given our status today, glad I got out when I did.

I was at Chemical Officer Basic at McClellan April - August 1990. Class 4-90.
Originally joined the Guard and was a 19E, armor crewman. Got a 3 year ROTC scholarship after my college freshman year, so got out of the Guard and was commissioned.
