Gilford was a big 'ol boy, originally from the Dayton, Tennessee area. He did a passable Junior Samples imitation and always wore bib overalls, it was said that he was buried in them.

When someone started talking trash about how they would respond to a difficult situation Gilford would say "You'd shit and fall back in it".
