One positive for me about the election results here is that the wife has finally had enough and is ready to get out of Illinois. We are looking at the Tulsa, OK area or the Little Rock, AR area.
Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions on either or both areas would be greatly appreciated.

Both are great towns, I live in Oklahoma, but traveled the region for 20 years. It really comes down to what you want in a city, I like Tulsa better since it's really well laid out and easy to find your way around, plus driving to another, larger city, like Kansas City, OKC or Springfield is all interstate driving, Little Rock's closest large city is Memphis. Little Rock is close Hot Springs, a really neat part of the state. Tulsa is more "artsy-fartsy" than Oklahoma City, so they have great museums and art galleries, OKC is catching up. The turnpike between the two cities is about 90 miles, and I think the speed limit is now 80 MPH, so it doesn't take long to get from one to another.

Oklahoma is possibly the only 100% "red county" state in the nation. If you are looking for the longest possible term for maintaining your Constitutional liberties, Oklahoma may be the best bet.

Tulsa for sure. Oklahoma was 100% red the last two presidential elections. When it comes to gun rights it is a great place to live.

SIL lived in Tulsa forever and we visited. Big enough town. Hardwood trees, rolling hills, 100 degrees in the summer. Open carry state. Casinos. Your screen name indicates you don't need no stinkin' job. Never been to Arkansas.

Arkansas is beautiful state, especially the north-central and northwest parts.
The thing about Tulsa is that you are just about as close to those areas as you would be in Little Rock.
CoolRich59, you may also want to check out the Rogers/Fayetteville area as well. There is a lot going on there now with Walmart and the Univ. of Arkansas.

It pains me to say it, but of those two, definitely Tulsa.
Little Rock is one of only a few liberal bastions in an otherwise very conservative state, filled with the urban poor "free shit" crowd. It's one of the last places in AR in which I'd live. To do any worse, you'd have to go to Pine Bluff just southeast of Little Rock, which is a crime-ridden shithole, or to far Eastern Arkansas which is primarily a suburb of an even bigger crime-ridden shithole (Memphis, TN).
If you want to consider Arkansas, look at the Northwest Arkansas Metroplex instead (Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers-Bentonville and the surrounding area). They're the two northwest counties on the map. And they're actually only ~2 hours from Tulsa.

Arkansas has very high (and just voted for 1/2% increase) sales tax. And annual personal property taxes (cars, boats, trucks, RVs, etc.) in addition to the sales tax on said items.

It's not a new tax that was passed, and the rate wasn't increased. Just an extension of an existing temporary one. State sales tax is still 6.5%.
Arkansas' state sales tax is still less than Minnesota, Indiana, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Mississippi, and California.

If Arkansas is on your list did you ever think of Mountain Home? Very nice area. My FIL lived there till he passed away. I'd take a look before making a final decision

I won't bore you guys with the details, but there are compelling reasons which limit us to Tulsa and Little Rock. So, Fayetteville or Mountain Home aren't options.
As an aside, a long time ago I spent a day in Mountain Home.
One of my company's clients got pissed off and took their business to the competition. Before, ripping out our equipment, the client insisted that a company rep meet with him so he could tell us personally how much we sucked. I got elected.
I spent the better part of a day flying to Mountain Home - it's not exactly a transportation hub. Met with the client first thing the next morning and was back out on the street about 15 minutes later. There was only one outbound flight and it wasn't until 5 or 6pm.
So, I spent the day exploring Mountain Home and thought it was pretty nice town.

Tulsa is home to the ginormous Wanamacher Gun Show, if you like vintage shooting irons.
