Tooled-up SAS hero led charge into Kenya hotel to kill terrorists and rush victims to safety as fanatics slaughtered 14

A CRACK SAS trooper piled into the Kenya terror siege – killing militants and saving lives, it was confirmed today.

The “long serving” member of the SAS – motto Who Dares Wins – was on a mission to train and mentor Kenyan Special Forces when four terrorists attacked a hotel complex.

After one detonated a suicide belt the remaining three went on a gun and grenade rampage leaving 14 dead, including British development worker Luke Potter.

Amid the carnage – orchestrated by terror group al-Shabaab – a lone SAS soldier got tooled up and went in after a request for help from Kenyan security forces, sources said.

Incredible images showed the operator in jeans, trainers and body armour storming through doors and aiding injured, his face covered by a balaclava.

He was pictured operating at the hotel alone. But he was joined in the mission by US Navy Seals, sources said.

An insider said: "UK Special Forces always run towards the sound of gunfire. He was there training and mentoring Kenyan forces when the shout went up, so they went in.

"During the operation he fired off some rounds – it’s a safe bet he hit his target – the SAS don’t miss.

"He is a long serving member of the Regiment, there is no doubt his actions saved lives."

The incident was today declared over by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and all the attackers "eliminated".

Local police and soldiers were also seen taking part in the dramatic standoff, with some 700 people eventually rescued from the complex.

Gunmen attacked the compound in the Westlands district of Kenya’s capital Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon.

The complex houses the DusitD2 hotel as well as offices and restaurants.

In a TV address to the nation, Mr Kenyatta said 14 people had been killed but hundreds more were safely evacuated.

Meanwhile, an American businessman who survived 9/11 has been named as one of 14 people killed in yesterday's horrific terror attack in Nairobi.
Jason Spindler was at the Dusit hotel when four Al-Shabaab terrorists went on a gun and bomb rampage through the upmarket complex.
The US businessman was the CEO of I-DEV International, a management and investment firm based in the Kenyan capital.
His brother, Jonathan, confirmed his death on Tuesday, saying: "It's with a heavy heart that I announce that my brother, Jason, passed away this morning during a terror attack in Nairobi," Dailymail.com reported.
"Jason was a survivor of 9/11 and a fighter. I am sure he gave them hell."
A British man with dual UK-South African nationality was also among those killed, while a second Brit was injured.
Today Jason's friend Chris Shroeder said on Facebook: "Jason Spindler was one of those rare men who was loved by pretty much anyone he touched in Kenya and around the world.
"He chose a life of hope and inclusion. I am grateful to have known and learned from him."
The coordinated assault began with an explosion that targeted three vehicles outside a bank, and a suicide bombing in the hotel lobby that severely wounded a number of guests, said Kenya's national police chief, Joseph Boinnet.

Gunfire and explosions were heard shortly after 3pm local time yesterday as police entered the upmarket Dusit Hotel, and images showed black plumes of smoke over the area.

The attack sparked a huge police siege, with Boinnet saying special forces worked to "flush them out".

He described the assault as a suspected terror attack, which Al-Shabaab later claimed responsibility for.

Describing the ordeal, bystander Lucy Wanjiru said she had been trying to flee when she saw a woman on the ground floor get shot. She ended up in a washroom with several other scared people.

Her friend Cynthia Kibe stayed in contact with her by phone overnight.

Kibe said: "I think I panicked when she told me that the gunshots are next to her. I had to keep telling her: 'Just wait, help is on the way, they are almost there, they are almost there.' And then at one point she was like: 'Please tell me I am getting out of here alive' and then it was just like my breaking point."

Yesterday horrific images showed several vehicles burned, sending black smoke rising over the complex.

Terrified survivors ducked behind cars screaming, while others took cover behind fountains and other features at the lush complex.

Footage from inside the hotel showed Kenyan security officers searching the building and terrified workers emerging from hiding while gunfire could be heard.

There were few Navy SEALS on the scene as well.

damn, an American who was not in the military a victim in 2 terror attacks. The odds have to be astronomical.

Not to belittle the brother’s grief and respect for the American victim, but I would be curious to know what the criteria of being a survivor of 9/11 are.

I read earlier that he was in his office in one of the towers and got out before it collapsed.

The series of photos on the newspaper’s site is interesting. A fair number of men who don’t look like military or police, including an old white guy, are armed with handguns. I wonder what the laws are there.

What struck me most, though, were the number of women who were barefoot while trying to escape with their lives. That’s obviously because many women’s shoes are not suitable for any sort of vigorous action, and it’s what I’m reminded of when I see men (and women) wearing sandals or just flip-flops. I think about all the guys who talk about the gun and extra magazines they’re carrying, the knife and perhaps a flashlight, and maybe even a first aid item or two, and wonder how many of them wear decent escape-from-danger footgear all the time.
