https://krtv.com/news/montana-...-critical-condition/ Last week a Montana Trooper was shot and severely injured. The initial report is above. Follow up reports on that local news page. It's been a tense past few days for all of us in the MHP Family. Those who wore the uniform in the past, those who wear it every day and the families. We have gotten some positive news these past few days, things are looking better. The 3 day knot in my stomach has gone away. One expects support from the LE community. We are all Brothers who will do whatever is needed to help. But the outpouring of community support has been in a word...amazing. When he was stabilized the Trooper was going to be mercy flighted to Salt Lake City. A local businessman in Missoula stepped up and flew the Troopers entire Family in his private jet to SLC. Knowing an extended stay out of State would be expensive, a Go Fund Me account was started to Trooper Palmer and his Family. Initially it was hoped to hit $50K. It exceeded that within 24 hours. We are a huge State but in many ways a small one. We have barely one million population and all of us know people all over the State. Yesterday I looked at the names of the people who donated and I knew many of them. There were many donations of $50 to $100, many from regular citizens with maybe only rare exposure to the MHP. Donations of odd amounts from businesses and individuals. Forty two dollars from a car wash staff. Another odd amount from an individual. Which suggest whatever they donated, was ALL they had. We live in such a strange time. So much division and outright hate out there. Yet it seems when someone needs help, we all step and and do what we can. I'm afraid I'm not doing this justice. I have been so touched by the kindness of the amazing people in Montana to one of my fellow Troopers. FN in MT

Any idea of what his injury is? The news has been pretty quiet about it. Just "critical". ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Glad things seem to looking up for the trooper! Folks in Montana are good folks!!! 13 rounds were fired at Trooper Wade while he was in his unit after pulling over the suspect. He was hit in the head twice and found by responding officers still in his seatbelt. (from someone who knows the trooper and the other victims) He is now listed as "stable". "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

This was news in Utah, too. Seems UHP and local police were there to help in any way possible. There was a police vigil outside the hospital, at least the first night or two. Glad to hear he's doing a lot better. ________________________________ "Nature scares me" a quote by my friend Bob after a rough day at sea.

The Utah HP and local Agencies were there when the Family first arrived to help out. From what the MT Colonel sent out this morning we still have both UT and MT folks there to help the Family and lend any support they can. I know he had two small children, so assistance with keeping the kids happy and occupied is much appreciated. I left a message yesterday, on the UT HP site, Thanking them for their support.

No surprise to me. I've been to Montana a number of times and am always sad to leave. The people I've met there have been wonderful. Best wishes to the officer for a full recovery. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. Our prayers are with Officer Palmer and his family. Montana is a very dangerous place to be a Highway Patrol Officer. We’ve lost 3 Officers alone in Flathead County, in NW Montana, due to traffic accidents. One was an accident, the other two were at the hands of drunks. These occurred between 2007 and 2009. Here is an update on Officer Palmer. Link MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — The wife of a Montana Highway Patrol trooper wounded while investigating a fatal shooting says her husband suffered three gunshot wounds and is currently in a medically induced coma at a Utah hospital. In a statement on Monday, Lindsey Palmer says her husband, Trooper Wade Palmer, remains in stable but "extremely critical" condition at University Hospital in Salt Lake City where he is being treated for wounds to the head, face and neck. She says he hasn't regained consciousness since the shooting last Friday and it may be some time before more is known about his prognosis. Palmer was shot in one of two related shootings in which a man died and two others were injured. Johnathan Bertsch has been charged with homicide and attempted homicide. I attended the 167th graduating class of the Montana Law Enforcement Academy today. Of the 60 entrants to this class, all 60 completed. Aside from my own personal interest the words of Trooper Palmer's wife, read by the state's Attorney General Fox, sticks in my mind: "Congratulations on your academy graduation today, and beginning the next chapter of your lives. Welcome to the best blue family I know; you all couldn't have joined a better law enforcement community." The times when the chips are down is when our character stands as it really is. Please continue to pray for Trooper Palmer and his family. Silent

He has had issues, But is certainly IMPROVING. A long way to go , but we are taking positive, small steps every day. The Colonel sends us all updates every day. There was a fund raiser in Helena this past week, that raised $10K. The community support is very gratifying.

His sister is a neighbor in our community. I hope he continues to recover. If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

Department of Justice State of Montana "Highway Patrol Trooper Wade Palmer To Return Home This Week Highway Patrol Trooper Wade Palmer will return home to Montana on Wednesday, May 22. He is currently receiving treatment at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, where his doctors have determined he is ready to transition to the next phase of care. At 11:30am on Wednesday, there will be a brief news conference at the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City with Wade’s lead physician, Lindsey Palmer, Montana Highway Patrol Chief Tom Butler, Attorney General Tim Fox, and others. The news conference will be live-streamed on the Highway Patrol’s Facebook page. Palmer will be flown to Missoula and is anticipated to arrive at Northstar Jet at approximately 1:30pm. After he arrives in Montana, a motorcade will escort him to his home (the procession route in Missoula will be released later today). Highway Patrol command staff and Attorney General Fox will be available for media interviews from 3pm-4pm at the Missoula District Office (2681 Palmer St, #B). “We are absolutely thrilled that Wade is coming home,” said Colonel Tom Butler. “From the very beginning, he has received the best possible medical care and I know that it saved his life. Words cannot express my gratitude to all of the health care providers in Missoula and Salt Lake City who have cared for him during these past two months. Wade has a long road ahead, but I am glad that he will be traveling that road here in Montana with his family, friends, and fellow troopers at his side.” “Wade will be welcomed home to Montana as a hero,” Attorney General Fox said. “On behalf of the Highway Patrol, the Department of Justice, and the entire Montana law enforcement community, I want to again share my profound thanks to all who have supported Wade and his family in ways large and small, seen and unseen. Let us all keep the other victims of that fateful March night in our thoughts and prayers as they continue to receive medical care.” On March 15, Palmer was shot in the neck, face, and head, after locating the suspect involved in an earlier shooting that injured two and killed one in Missoula. He was transported to Saint Patrick Hospital in critical condition and eventually flown to Salt Lake City to receive Level I trauma care. In the following days, Wade will begin outpatient therapy as his recovery continues. While the family is happy to share this news with the public, they also respectfully request privacy as they return and adjust to life back at home."
