Yesterday the Bosch dishwasher decided that it was time to have a problem for the holidays, since there will be a house full of people and dinner,

Murphy strikes again, couldn't do this after the holidays, or a week or so earlier right?

After some research, the drain will run whenever it senses water to drain, makes sense, but since the last cycle was through, dishes cleaned and dryed it shouldn't be running at all, unless, the little plastic over over the drain impeller develops a pin hole.

Then, with the tiny amount of water in the bottom of the drain bowel it decides that it needs to run, and, using the newly created pin hole, refill said water back into the drain bowl, creating a nice circle of events that makes the drain run constantly.

Of course nowhere can you find parts for a Bosch that are available for delivery before the holiday dinner. So I'm off to Ace, going to find some plastic epoxy, fill the hole and see if that fixes the situation. Ordered the part online but its not going to get here until after new years.

You can see the worn through hole in the indentation above the < on the side.

Yep, if that pinhole is the source of the problem, an epoxy fix should hold you over.

Otherwise, bust out the towels and scrub brushes, and have the guests help pitch in with doing the dishes after dinner, like the old days.

Only reason the drain pump runs constantly is a leak into the pan UNDER the dishwasher.

Dry out the pan under the dishwasher, put a hold on the epoxy.

Clean the door seal with vinegar and a toothbrush and don't forget the underside of the door and the two rubber tabs of the door seal at the bottom.

If the epoxy doesn't work, I would try a short SS wood screw until you can get a replacement part.
Good luck and enjoy your holiday crowd.

after looking at the replacement online, that small pin hole is on that part as well, so as Twig points out something is causing the drain to continue to run.

Guess I'll have to pull it out and get to checking other things out as well.

Looking at the photo you snapped, I kind of figured it would be.

As ST said, Eurotrash dishwashers have a sensor in the pan under them to detect water that has leaked into them. I usually find it's a hole in a drain hose causing the issue.

Merry Christmas AB, thanks to all for the input

I did drain quite a bit out, going to hook it up in the garage using an adapter to connect the garden hose, then crank it up out there. That way I won't get water on the new wood floors,

See if I can find the culprit, so I can order either a part or new unit.

Guess the gals are back to the old ways for post Christmas Dinner Cleanup!

Well, there's your problem right there... Modern dishwashers don't necessarily suck. However, LG dishwashers suck.

LG kitchen and laundry appliances are known for being problematic, and tough/expensive to repair. (See also Samsung.)

My 20 year old Whirlpool dishwasher just took a crap. Wont start. Fortunately it wasn't full of water when it decided to quit. Looks like the control board. No parts available for repair, so new unit inbound.

2022 starting off like 2021.

I am not happy with my Bosch appliances. But when my range died after 3 years they fixed it free out of warranty. So my experience with them hasn’t been bad. Well except the appliances all have issues.

Whoops meant to post update, so I put it in the garage, just in case it decided to leak, drained the base, let it sit a week to evap any condensation left, which isn't easy in the Humid air of FL...

Hooked up to the hose and power and ran several cycles. Nary a drop of water in the base, go figure, no parts swap, whatever caused it isn't doing it now.

So it's back in the kitchen, if it does it again we'll get a new unit, this one is 10 years old, and I'd rather put the money toward a new unit than parts and labor...

I may have sounded more negative than I intended. But given the current supply chain issues (thank you Comrade Uncle Joe) Bosch has been hit hard. I've been working through a dishwasher repair/replacement issue since June/July of last year. They have offered a free replacement (technically an upgrade even) when it becomes available, but that it will probably be another 3-6 months.

Until then, we are rediscovering the joys of paper plates and plastic cups.
