KevinCWIn both MO and IL, you absolutely CANNOT make a left on red.

ftttuI'm a retired Texas LEO, so tell her what others have said - if red light, you treat intersection like a right turn if turning onto one way roadway traveling from your right to your left.
I would be prominent in my unit at a light, and people frequently would turn right on red right next to me, failing to ever stop. You HAVE to STOP at the stop line or before crosswalk if no line in obedience to the light before turning. So same with left in red.

SapperSteelThe Idaho Driver's Manual states on page 2-1: “When turning left into a one-way street, you may turn left after stopping (for a steady red light) and yielding to cross traffic except where posted otherwise.” ... You aren't allowed to make a left turn on a red when the signal is a red arrow – or if a sign prohibits it.
Thanks,
Sap

46and2It's so dumb that it varies and is illegal in some places. It's like a persistent and annoying speedbump on Main St of civilization. No justification beyond: because. Groups of people make some really bizarre choices sometimes, about the most banal things. Every year or four we should audit all existing laws and make it a point to remove the pointless and bad ones. Make laws for three years, remove a bunch for a year, repeat, or something. Such things are barely better than truly idiotic ones like: No left turns after noon on Tuesdays during an eclipse, at an intersection where it literally makes zero difference whatsoever.

cmr076I know in PA at least you can turn left on red from one one way onto another one way street unless it's marked. My wife also still refuses to.
