Ecuador Rejects Socialists, Elects 35-Year-Old Outsider Daniel Noboa as President

Daniel Noboa, the 35-year-old heir to one of the world’s most lucrative banana companies, will become the next leader of Ecuador after winning Sunday’s presidential election, one marred by widespread political violence and the assassination of a then-frontrunner in the race.

In Ecuador, presidential candidates must present themselves for an initial election in which, if no candidate receives a majority of the votes, the top two finishers go on to a runoff election. Noboa faced establishment socialist candidate Luisa González, the winner of the first round, in Sunday’s election.

Everybody can become friendly if we give them money.

Orellana, August 3, 2023. Representatives of the United States Embassy in Ecuador delivered $3.1 million of support to units of the Ecuadorian Armed Forces during their visit yesterday to El Coca, in the province of Orellana. Contributions included $1.1 million of military equipment, $1.3 million for the construction of the River Maintenance Center for the 19th “Napo” Jungle Brigade, and $747,000 of communications equipment for the San Lorenzo Marine Infantry Brigade.
I think they broke ties with the U.S in 2009

Hope he does well.
His term is a short one as he's filling a vacancy and will have to run again soon, before he has time to make much progress. As an outsider in politics, he's also likely to face some headwinds by the entrenched bureaucracy.

These are the countries, south of our border that we need to assist, as they are the eventual answer to many of our illegal immigration and other problems.

Having prosperous neighbors with functional and legitimate governments would go a long way towards solving many of our border issues.

The ‘1st lady’ is easy on the eyes too. I guess it’s part of the very wealthy banana empire.

A banana magnate as the head of a banana republic, that is fitting.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Family Reunification Parole (FRP) allows U.S-based Ecuadorians to sponsor immediate family members abroad to come into the country legally.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said the FRP process will open up new pathways for legal immigration, while also hopefully reducing the number of people making the dangerous journey from Ecuador using people smugglers.
