Black92LXWhat does one do if your tax refund is missing a zero??
Tax refund dropped into the account today, not pending status but fully accessible but the amount is missing a zero.
How does one handle that?

SIG228I'd call a local delicatessen and ask them where my money is at.

I employ a CPA to deal with such things. Over the years the IRS has made many mistakes that have required a professional to correct. I am not exaggerating. The first was when the IRS incorrectly labled funds as taxable when they were retirement monies. My CPA wrote a letter and a year later it was corrected.

Flash-LBContact the IRS personally and notify them of their mistake. Other than the fact you'll be on the phone a long time, it will probably be relatively simple.
But first contact your bank and make sure that they're not the ones who dropped the zero.

You are very optimistic. I have NEVER had something with the IRS that is simple.

Jamess1Check here to see what the IRS is saying your refund should be.....
IRS Refunds That will show what they are trying to deposit.
Wait for the deposit to finally clear.
They will be sending you a letter in the mail to tell you what they did. Yes it will take a while to get that letter.
If still off from what you have expected is there any possible:
Why is my refund different than the amount on the tax return I filed?
All or part of your refund may have been used (offset) to pay off past-due federal tax, state income tax, state unemployment compensation debts, child support, spousal support, or other federal nontax debts, such as student loans. To find out if you may have an offset or if you have questions about an offset, contact the agency to which you owe the debt.
We also may have changed your refund amount because we made changes to your tax return. This may include corrections to any incorrect Recovery Rebate Credit amount. You’ll get a notice explaining the changes. Where’s My Refund? will reflect the reasons for the refund offset when it relates to a change in your tax return.
Tax Topic 203, Refund Offsets for Unpaid Child Support, Certain Federal and State Debts, and Unemployment Compensation Debts has more information about refund offsets.
If not then you have to call the IRS. My suggestion is try off hours, short wait times then during peak times.
Sorry.

ZSMICHAELJames has helped me. A CPA with lots of experience. Follow what he says to the letter. We are lucky to have such an expert on the Forum.

m1009Well, ours still says it’s processing. No details.

Black92LXClicked the link James provided and it said the number we got was correct.
The details listed a laundry list of reasons why. The only one that made any sense was improper calculation.
But a letter with more details has been sent.
The fella that does my taxes believes the stimulus amount we received was incorrect and that is the reason for the discrepancy.
