I bought a jar of dills (not kosher dill, which I actually prefer) to try. I know everyone has different tastes, but for my taste, they are overrated, overpriced ($7 for a 32-oz. plastic jar) and underwhelming. Vlasic, especially the bread & butter spears, is still my "go-to." Another decent pickle (in the kosher dill and sweet variety) is the Ingles Markets store brand called Laura Lynn.
Sonic drive-ins have been advertising a sandwich made entirely of Grillo's pickles. I'll pass.

I’d probably like pickle sandwiches. Especially on Mestemacher Pumpernickel.
My favorite pickle for burgers is Clausen’s Sandwich Slices. They’re sliced lengthwise rather than crosswise.
Serious about crackers.

My wife likes the Sweet n' Spicy chips from Grillo's as well as the "Pickle de Gallo". I have not seen other brands as good as those, but do agree that their plain dill is nothing to write home about.
I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

I should have said that I don't like the idea of an entirely pickle sandwich, period. There can be too much of a good thing. To each his own, of course.

They were what the Walmart I happened to be in had, and purchased on a whim, somewhat against my better judgement.
But at least they weren't as bad as these:

I love pickles. My nieces and nephews call me Uncle Pickle Head.
I'm a big fan of Grillo's Hot Pickles and started eating them when I moved down to Florida. I couldn't find Clausen's so I tried Grillo's and haven't looked back.

I like Kosher Dill myself. Everytime I seek out hot pickles, they are too often the sweet type. Yuk!
So I buy Kosher Dills and add crushed red peppers, Habanero, and/or hot cherry peppers. After a day or two, much better.

I don't see sugar in the ingredient list. Also Redner's nearby has them. Got to check them out. Thanks Egregore for the brand suggestion!

My favorite too. I like their pickle "chips" too to go on sandwiches, like homemade sloppy-joes, where some of it falls out and you have to scoop it up w/ potato chips. Maybe some extra pickles on the side. I'll also throw them into my tuna fish sandwich mix.

Not a fan of Grillo's - they seem like they're not done pickling...
Now Famous Dave's Spicy Pickle Chips, or Devil's Spit Pickle chips - those are tasty! No dill though... Mt. Olive Kosher Dill are pretty good.

Someone brought that to a get together recently.
Gotta love it, it's relish most likely made from pickle ends and scraps and they are charging an arm and a leg for it.
Still, Grillo's pickles are far better than 95% of of what's on the shelf at the supermarket which is sad, cooked limp crap.

Well actually it’s not entirely a pickle sandwich there is meat and other stuff on it.

I think that is the point they are more like a fresh and crisp alternative to an over pickled soft pickle.

Most chilled pickles in the cooler section are better than those on the regular room temperature shelves.

I think Grillo's were the ones my wife bought two tubs of from Costco. They sat in our fridge forever because none of the five of us liked them at all. They were soggy with no snap. We can’t keep a jar of Claussens in the fridge for more than a week. They disappear like magic. This message has been edited. Last edited by: trapper189,

Claussen dill on a Cuban sandwich is where it’s at.
I also like their sauerkraut.

I grow cucumbers, banana peppers, and dill in my garden. For the first time, I made refrigerator quick dill pickles with the aformentioned ingredients plus added some red onion. They are delicious, and they are not subtle.
Most dill pickles on the shelf at the grocery store are so damn boring.

We keep a jar of homemade pickled onions for tacos and all the different Latin food my wife cooks. It’s a great fresh topping on otherwise heavy food.
