Knopfler also pays great tribute to those who died in the line of duty in one of his songs 'Remembrance Day'.

I think there is an eternal afterlife. It will take me that eternity to thank each soul whose sacrifice benefited my life. I look forward to the opportunity.

My grandfather earned a military cross on the night of 21/22 June 1917.

He's still lying under it, in Plot A, Row B, Templeux-le-Guérard Northern Extension Military Cemetery, on the Somme.

Please don't go to Vimy Ridge or Beaumont Hamel, on Canada Day - at least, not without being prepared to break your heart.

Thank you for sharing that. May God bless him and may he rest in peace.
