The item description for the Deflecto says it is meant for electric dryers only.

Electric makes sense and makes good sense to get some heat and humidity. Dad had it on a gas dryer growing up but back in the day that was probably the least of our worries, and we lived. Gas though, only has one exhaust avenue so it has to have the exhaust gases. Now I'm curious and want to find out. Carbon monoxide

From what I am seeing the gas dyers exhaust the combustion exhaust through the dryer drum and out the main dryer exhaust.

And for good reason. You don't want carbon monoxide in your home.

A market opportunity right here - a hepa certified dryer vent diverter - as all the others discussed in this thread, but not just a screen to catch the lint, but a bona-fide sealed HEPA filter to get all the lint and particulate pollution, not just the stuff you can "see". Particulates like that will kill you over time, just like lots of other industrial air-borne solids pollutants. The hot dryer air and humidity diverted from your drier output vent would be cleaner than the air already in your house. These others mentioned are a death trap over time, esp. for older people with existing lung disease. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Coyote School of DIY Disaster
