Some of you all may remember I built this with my middle boy last year. He skated it a bit but the other brothers weren’t skating so it was an occasional thing.
My oldest boy got a board and ended up with a mini 7” deck and came out thrashing. I did not skate as a young kid so actually figured a smaller board would be way harder for them to learn. I was wrong big time. Middle boy jumped on the 7” and it was a night and day difference the second he got on the board.
There is a new skate shop in town we used to just have the mall chain (boo) and one local bike shop had a tiny selection. Seems like a cool fella even though he does carry a Glock.
So it’s Spring Break I took the boys over to the shop to get them all 7s. They were out as they had a Christian Skate Camp group event over the weekend so he was all out of 7s. He ordered some for us so hopefully they’ll be here Wednesday.
I am now riding the 8.25 Ghostbusters board.

It has been 20+ years since I have really been on a board and probably about 70 some pounds! I bought this deck but I doubt I am going to skate it. Probably will just go on the wall in the shop.

Sounds like an excellent way to break your wrist or collarbone.

Back in the day, I did break my right arm skateboarding just prior to starting 9th grade.

About a month ago, I met a neighbor from a couple blocks away. She was wearing a walking cast so I inquired what happened. Less than 10 seconds on her kid's skateboard is what happened.

I briefly tried to get down the road on the one my wife has in the garage.
Swiftly had it come out from under me. Caught myself, palms down & wasn't going very fast.
The impact felt like it pushed my shoulders inward. Sore for a few days.

We also have a ~4ft longboard on wider wheels. Much easier to cruise on.

I can relate to this. I've gone to a skating rink twice in the past 2 years and don't remember skating ever being so mentally draining. Keeping yourself upright was so much easier when you're younger, shorter, and lighter. Big Grin

Having 3 kids <10 we've done a few skating parties.
Takes me a few minutes, but I'm usually cruising ok.

Never did master the boarding (skate/water/snow)

Just gets crowded/busy so your speed is more crowd limited at the one by us.
