“Three of Japan's biggest car makers have shunned electric vehicles and vowed to achieve carbon neutrality by developing cleaner internal combustion engines (ICE). Toyota, Mazda and Subaru announced in Tokyo this week they will commit to bringing to market smaller engines as well as utilise hybrid technology and adopt green biofuels to lower vehicle emissions. Toyota, the world's biggest car seller, described its new compact ICE as 'an engine reborn'. All three manufacturers have been reluctant to join the battery car arms race currently in motion in China and Europe. And their latest announcement shows a willing to double down on a strategy involving selling more than just EVs in the future. …” DailyMail article: https://mol.im/a/13471591 Serious about crackers

Well, Nissan's turbo three cylinder variable compression engine is absolute garbage. You can see Renault's meddling in this. ____________________________ Eeewwww, don't touch it! Here, poke at it with this stick.

^^^ Would you please add some more detail and context? I've been thinking about the Tundra or a 3/4 ton Chev with their 6.6 gas engine or Ford's 7.3 "Godzilla" engine that is also gas. My current Toyota has nearly 225,000 trouble free miles but the push for turbos and more gadgets has me worried somewhat and you're not helping (LOL). __________________________

A useful post gone off the rails. To get back on track: it started with Toyota, in fact Toyoda, the founder of the company, the first major a to exec to admit it would be a huge mistake to stake everything on EV’s. Now Toyota is joined by its junior partners, Subaru and Mazda. Given their joint impact on the market, I’m pretty sure Honda and Hyundai/Kia will follow suit. American manufacturers sold their souls to Joe Biden, and may never recover. I’m in favor of massive competition and the technological advances that will bring. Someday there may be infrastructure that will support EV’s, but not here and now. Physically impossible—e.g. not enough copper can be mined for the demand. Better yet would be enough time to demonstrate to those willing to change their minds that global warming is not a crisis. Stop the EV mandates! Stop all the mandates! Go back to dating girls like God intended! _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

Toyota is being smart. They are just not putting all their eggs in one basket. They are still investing in Hybrids EVs and Battery EVs with their new $13.9B battery manufacturing facility in NC (TBMNC). In the interviewI saw with the plant director, it currently will have 4 lines supporting HEVs and 2 lines for BEVs, but can easily switch production as needed. TBMNC
