Good to see people rolling up their sleeves and getting a little dirty! Good job.

I have cherry picker as well but the tractor was a little quicker. Yanking a 454 out of my old truck still hooked up to the 5 speed.

"Cherry picker" engine hoists suck. Just to pump up the lift arm from fully down to a usable height will try your patience and wear you out. Also, they have to swing in an arc, so as you lift the engine (or lower it into place) you have to continually reposition it. My former workplace obtained a gantry with an electric hoist, and I never looked back. They are also handy for lifting beds off of pickup trucks so you can service the fuel pump or tank.

Nowadays, with the sole exception of assisting my brother, I work on no one's cars but my own, and sometimes not even then.

Seems to be always something! That job makes all the jobs I have done on my truck look like child play! Next I have to replace my fuel pump and find out what is wrong with my AC for the third time. Great work!

Just swap it with a Coyote crate engine and happier motoring.

I’m thinking since you already have the 4.0 out, swap a 5.0 in…..

Nightmare indeed, but pretty impressive.

Yeah, that AUDI would give me serious heartburn.
I'd probably turn that down.
They'd have to be a REALLY good friend for me to touch it.

Compare that timing chain to a .327 Chevy. Good grief.

Appreciate your photos & willing acceptance of the challenge. About 50 years ago (yikes!) I had to replace the head gasket on my Datsun 1500 Roadster on the front lawn.

Having few tools beyond a swiss army knife & a couple adjustable swing wrenches, the very basic few hand tools it took for the entire job was surprising. It actually started right up after the process.

Putting any wear item on the back of an engine or changing a part that requires another, even more complex part to be removed, should be punishable by death for all guilty parties.

^^^ I've said for years that engineers & designers need to put in time and get dirty at a repair shop before being allowed to engineer & design stuff.

My only suggestion would be to look for a 2-post lift on Craigslist or FB MP. If you're doing a few of these, dropping the entire front assembly (engine, front suspension) out the bottom and on the ground while lifting the rest of the vehicle off would seem easier.

Cars are designed to be assembled, not repaired. Years ago I talked to a GM engineer about engine compartment design. He said that they had a list of about ten things that needed to be accessible. Not starter, alternator or those things - the engine oil dipstick, the windshield washer fill, the coolant bottle and similar simple stuff. He said that they tracked service complaints on everything else but waited until re-design time to fix them.

Keep in mind these are the same people who came up with an oil filter inside the oil pan...

Have you gotten to the chain installation and timing procedure yet? Show us some pictures.
