He passed away today at the age of 85. Apparently he had been on dialysis the last couple weeks and in poor health. I know him and his diabetes memes were popular here on this forum, but to me he also seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Rest In Peace sir.

I also thought he had already passed. I cannot believe he was never nominated for an Oscar. I loved his character in the Natural.
I guess we all thought he had passed because he lived such a quiet life, and did not seek public affirmation by being on twitter, or reality shoes by being a horses butt.
I will say that he had an interesting life and one that some how groomed him for his roles on the big screen.
He dropped out of high school to join the Marines, where he served for three years in the in the Aleutian Islands.
He then worked as a bodyguard for businessman Howard Hughes, a ranch hand, wrangler, and blacksmith. He then got a job shoeing horses for film and television. At the behest of his close friend and fellow actor, Robert Duvall, he began acting in the 1960s as a riding extra and stunt man in Westerns.[6]
To me this is one of the best statements a person could receive about one's character/personality: (His publicist gave this statement)
“Wilford Brimley was a man you could trust,” Bensky said in a statement. “He said what he meant and he meant what he said. He had a tough exterior and a tender heart."

My wife and I stayed at the same resort as he and his wife while visiting Maui. We had a few cocktails with them while sitting by the pool. What a wonderful and down to earth couple. RIP Mr Brimley.

I particularly enjoyed him in "Crossfire Trail" with Tom Selleck. He certainly played interesting and enjoyable characters. Considering his health problems over many years he lived a pretty long life.

He was 48 years old when he filmed the natural.
He was only 50 when he filmd Cocoon.
I enjoyed his work a lot.

Loved ole Wilford. The hallmark of a great actor was that he can either make you love his character, or hate his character. He was able to do both. He'll be missed.

One of my favorite characters was Smith in Remo Williams- The Adventure Begins. I read the book series and pictured ole Wilford in that role in every one.
