Wife wants a decent'ish camera she can shove in her purse. Nothing too elaborate. Just need something that takes better photos than iphones. That way at events or whatever. She can grab some photos. Thinking $200-$300 budget. Any Suggestions? Train how you intend to Fight Remember - Training is not sparring. Sparring is not fighting. Fighting is not combat.

Canon ELPH 360 HS 12X optical zoom, purse/pocketable. At the low end of your price range from BHPhoto or Adorama. You may be tempted to step up to the SX620 and it’s 25x zoom, but you’ll lose image quality with a lens trying to work that range. https://www.engadget.com/2017/...amera/?ref=hvper.com What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand??? ![]()

I doubt you will find something that does that. IPhones have one heck of a camera, and I say that being an apple hater. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

A little higher than your budget limit but this is an awesome camera. Sony DSC HX90V with a Zeiss 30X lens. I use mine for about everything now. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-DS...&keywords=sony+hx90v Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird

Second the Panasonic. I have a DMCzs60, which should now be in your price range. 18 Megapixels 30x zoom. I was looking for the same thing I think you are. I wanted to take pics but not just with my phone. I have taken it on a few trips, including Yellowstone, and it did not disappoint at all. Plus it has a ton of settings I can play with and the click back to point and shoot. It is small enough to fit in jacket and pants pockets.

What he said.
The optical zoom on that Canon makes it an iPhone camera killer. I have an iPhone 6s Plus, and it is a fantastic camera - one of the best I've owned in 20+ years of making a living from photography/video. Heck, I've shot stuff with the 6s Plus and used it in local TV commercials/videos. But alas...it has no optical zoom.

I’m a canon fanboy but from what I’ve seen from friends that have Sony point and shoot cameras, Sony is beating canon in image quality when it comes to point and shoots.

I agree. Sony uses Zeiss lenses that are much sharper and clearer than other options. It also explains why they are a little pricier than their competitors. This coming from a Nikon fanboy. Take a look at the first generation Sony RX100 as a possible option though at $368. It has a 1" sensor which makes for superior low light performance if that might be a need as a flash does not cut it in many situations where lighting is not ideal. Optical zoom is limited at 3.6 times though if that is a concern but that still is far better than the iPhone would be. https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Pr...&keywords=sony+rx100

Backing up my Nikon D7200 is a little Cannon Power Shot A2200. It takes good photos, with a 14.1 mega pixel 4x zoom lense. Runs about $150. Only complaint is it is a little slow. Does video and a variety of settings to move it past a “dummie” camera. "I don't shoot well, but I shoot often." - Pres. T. Roosevelt

Point and Shoot cameras will be replaced by iPhones. That’s not my opinion but that of others in the photography business. I recently bought an RX100M2 which has a 20 MP, 1” sensor. Great features. And, it fits in my front pocket and coat pocket. Look for a good deal online. Larger BestBuys have a large selection of cameras in house. They pretty much match anyone else’s prices and have better financing options if that’s of interest.

I like my Lumix, two of them. But one consideration is batteries. I also like the convenient AA batteried cameras. I keep spare AA and AAA batteries in the car for camera and flashlight. I have a couple Canon and a couple Kodak small cameras using AA. They work great. But there are more features on the Lumix. And AA chargable batteries work great in the small cameras. You might want to see what KEH has to offer. I purchased a camera (Fuji X-T1) and lens in ex+ condition. I could not tell it from new. Silent
