This past Saturday was a pretty good day. Work wasn't too hectic. Saturdays are usually VERY hectic. It's usually our busiest day and it's also our shortest day. I left work at 4:00 pm and went fishing in my new-to-me Old Town fishing kayak. I caught 3 nice sized largemouth bass. Two of which threw the hook before I could get them onboard. The last bass was a nice one.

I stopped by Subway on the way home from fishing to get something for dinner. Everything seemed normal after eating my sandwich...UNTIL...about 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. I woke up to horrible pain in my gut. It was so bad that I texted my wife, TSM11 to see if she happened to be awake. I know that sounds weird that she would be awake at that hour and I didn't know it. You see, she was sitting bedside with her Mom in the hospital. We talked a bit and decided that I probably got food poisoning from Subway (BAD MAYONNAISE) and if it got worse I would call Nine Eleven (Inside joke, TSM11 has 30+ years at Tampa Police Dept.). Well at about 4:00 a.m. I couldn't take it anymore and called 9-1-1. When I got to the ER, other than being in the most intense pain I think I have EVER experienced, everything went well UNTIL I told them I was a pain management patient. From that point on, IMHO they had me tagged as a drug seeker and were pretty apathetic about my care. After the CAT scan confirmed I was having a gallbladder attack I was treated much better. Yesterday, I had laparoscopic gallbladder removal surgery.

But wait there's more.... After ALL that, my Mother-In-Law passed away this morning. TSM11 felt horrible that she wasn't there for me while I was going thru that. I felt awful that I wasn't there for her during her time of need. TSM11 is one of the strongest women I know. She has witnessed death too many times. She used to be a paramedic. In addition to her experiences as a Paramedic, she has been there for her Dad to take his last breath. She even started to run the code as she and her Mom waited for the ER/ED personnel to get there. She came home one morning after work to find her brother dead in their shared home. She was there when her best friend Mary Katherine breathed her last breath as well. Then went to her Maid of Honor's home minutes after Ceil Byrd passed away, to comfort Tommy in his time of need. We never want a loved one to die. But we were careful of what we asked for in our prayers. Mom fought her ass off trying to beat mesothelioma. She gave it her all and never seemed to get discouraged. I think she fought for us, her family, as much, if not more for herself.

Wow, Tony. Tough weekend. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. You are less than an hour away.

I would call that a really bad weekend too. Sorry to hear, especially the apathy part re: your pain. At least, it got sorted out.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Each of you has been through an awful event that happened at the same time, so you couldn't comfort each other as you both wanted to do. As awful as both these events were and are, the bond you have with TSM11 seems unshakable, and that is a real blessing. Say a prayer of thanks for that bond of love.

That’s rough all around.

I'm glad you got fixed up and while TSM11 feels terrible that she was not able to be there for you it’s good that she was able to be there for her mother at the end.

You are both in out thoughts and prayers.

Tony.

I count you and T as dear friends, even thought the "face time" has been so short.

You two are the why the word "mensch" was needed, as no other word would suffice, so the Almighty gave us this.

And, there is a reason some people are give the great responsibility to "be on hand, in a time of need".

Sometimes God chooses people to be his "messengers" (malakhiym), is what people call "angels".

You two are a team, and as hard as it is, you may never know the power that the "being there, in that time" is manifested, in the world to come.

May you both be blessed with long life, and good health, and may Your "Mom's" name always be for a blessing.

I guess I have no bitch coming. My bride was having chest pain and difficulty breathing so she called our daughter. She took her mother’s pulse and appearence and called 911. Long story short mom is in the horse pistol with pneumonia.
