My wife is setting up a and programing a Amazon Fire HD8 Kindle for my mother. We have never had a Kindle in the past so she is wondering what would be the best antivirus to use. Is antivirus necessary for a Kindle? What's at risk? Are there Kindle virii (I think that's the plural, maybe it's virim)? הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Not sure. It does connect to the internet. When my wife is done we will be sending it to my mother who will use it to watch TV through her cable company app. She also plays the free/Facebook slot games. She will also look at QVC but not buy using the Kindle. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Interesting. I never thought about a virus in connection with a Kindle. I googled “Kindle virus” and sure enough, there are some Kindle antivirus products. There are free versions of the following familiar names:
It should be easy enough to use your favorite search engine and find reviews of these products. One thing that would be interesting, that I have not seen yet, would be some information about actual occurrences of viruses on these devices. I have no knowledge about this but my gut feeling is that it’s not really a problem if sensitive information like credit card data etc. is not transmitted or stored on the device. Is your mother savvy enough to avoid being taken in by a phishing scam? הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

The Kindle Fire series are just Android tablets with some extra Amazon software on top.

I did not know that. I have a Kindle, but it is a dedicated eBook reader. As far as I know, it does not have any other capabilities. Back to the virus question: Are tablets -- Android and iOS -- really in danger? Is antivirus really necessary? I am trying to think of a scenario that would require virus protection and I can't really come up with one. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

None! If it gets F/U, simply reset it to factory and start over. RMD TL Davis: “The Second Amendment is special, not because it protects guns, but because its violation signals a government with the intention to oppress its people…” Remember: After the first one, the rest are free.

Don't know which is best, but I have a Fire HD10 and run Bitdefender Antivirus Free. Been running it for about 2 months. It hasn't found any issues but I don't use the HD10 much either. One thing I do not do is download and install apps that aren't from the HD10's Amazon Appstore ... including Bitdefender.

We have had 3 of them for the past 2 years and have never used anti virus. We don’t really surf the web, though as my daughters watches PBS apps and I YouTube. _____________
