Actually having been born in Chicago, Ill, I honestly don't ever see moving back since my folks moved here to Miami in the early 50's. I'd really love to just get back north enough to see a change in the seasons and cooler temps, not minding a little snowfall also. Areas like the lower Blue Ridge Mtns in NW Georgia would be fine. I've enjoyed year round water sports and nice winters here but always dreamed of an after retirement move. Seeing green year round now for over 60 yrs is good enough. I only hope that I can talk the wife and still have enough health to make that goal. Stay warm folks!
Regards, Will G.

The Weather Channel appears to be ignoring the deep freeze. Sure, they are giving it air time but it has to been given a name yet. Theses freezing temps can be as deadly, if not more than a snow storm that had to be produced by Climate Change.....

I'm old enough to remember when they were predicting the end of mankind, if not the planet, was going to be by freezing. A few decades later came the warming crowd. Now events like this screw with their short attention span. They don't realize that one or two events like this don't make a trend from a world history point of view, so they now call it climate change since they don't know which way it will go. Someone needs to tell them it happens every year.
Jackson, MS is in a full panic. It may be frozen for a few hours Tuesday morning. Granted this will be ice so no-go, but it's also supposed to be sunny with a high of 40 after a low of 25.

I remember a few years ago (maybe 2010?) there was a day or two of double-digit negative cold around SBN. Have to go look it up now.
Looks like a lot of stuff will be closed Wed.

The year of the Infamous Polar Vortex. Yeah, 2-3 years ago. We didn't get double-digits below zero F, here in S.E. Mi., but we got many days of minus single digits. For most of a couple months, if memory serves.
It's only supposed to hit minus single digits, here, again, but it'll be close. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ensigmatic,

I do remember the one a couple years ago, but there was another event about a decade ago.
Aside: I was just looking at Weather channel, and apparently winter storms are now named? Who knew?

Well this is normally the part where'd I'd laugh & point & make fun......this is pretty typical interior Alaska winter stuff.....but then I decided not to....because it sucks, especially if you aren't used to it. Ya'll dress in layers, plug in your cars (if your vehicles are winterized), and don't be out any longer than necessary.
It's also a good time to go over your "get home" packs, make sure you throw some blankets & extra winter gear in your vehicles, and look at redundant heat sources (i.e. - wood stoves/pellet stoves, or home power generation).
Stay warm and ride it out. Once it gets back up into "normal" winter temps it will feel downright balmy after this cold snap.
