I want to buy her a competition gun belt and holster. Help me select her rig please.

We shoot USPSA and Steel Challenge and both usually use a cheap OWB holster. She shoots a SP2022 and currently just uses the holster that came with it free. I tried hers one time and bought the same thing for me. $20 piece of crap, but it works well for me. She needs a belt with a little more support and I'd like to get her a better holster too.

I was looking at Double Alpha and Blade Tech belts as that is all I have seen others wearing at matches. Any other suggestions are welcome, but I think I would prefer to get her one of those two. Also need a holster that will work for SP2022, and if possible 226/229 as well. As far as I know Blade Tech is the go to for the holster part, anything else I should consider?

Lastly mag pouches. Just use the SIG branded (not sure who actually makes them) double mag carriers now. Do I need to buy her mag carriers now, or can something like that be used with the fancy shooting rig for short term?

I shoot USPSA and Steel challenge and have gone through a bunch of stuff looking for what I liked. This might get a little long winded but hopefully you'll find some helpful info in here.

For belts I have used CR Speed, Double Alpha Premium and Pro belts and the new offering from Shooters Connection. For heavy guns like full steel Limited and Open guns you can't beat the Double Alpha Pro belt. It is very rigid and does a great job holding everything up. For a lighter Production gun you can't go wrong with the Double Alpha Premium or the offering from Shooters Connection. I am currently running the Double Alpha Premium for my Carry Optics rig and the Double Alpha Pro for my Open gun.

For magazine holders I have used the Ghost holders, the plastic and aluminum Double Alpha Race Master pouches and the Safariland Model 773 pouches. The Double Alpha stuff is expensive and a little bit of overkill for the guns you are looking at. For my Carry optics rig I settled on the Safariland Model 773 pouches. They are reasonably priced, more of the magazine sticks out of the pouch so that you can grab them easy and they also have a plastic bearing that aids in mag removal.

When it comes to holsters I have used BladeTech, Comp Tac and recently have moved to the Red Hill Tactical Double-Layer Competition holsters for my Production, Carry Optics and Limited Rigs with their drop attachment which is actually produced by Springer Precision.

You can check out the Red Hill Tactical stuff here https://redhilltactical.com/products/sigch

The Red Hill holsters are a little expensive and they take about a month to come in but they are the best I have tried. The double layer holster is more rigid than the BladeTech and Comp Tac offerings and does not flex as much as the others when you draw the gun. Plus they look great and he has a huge selection of kydex colors to choose from.

Now I will admit that I am a little partial to the Red Hill holsters because I am part of their shooting team but I would not be using them or on the team if I didn't like the product. Check things over and if you want to go the Red Hill Tactical way let me know and I can get you 10% off your purchase.

If you have any further questions let me know.

Looked over Red Hill. Set up I choose was $105 for the holster, $100 to have it in time for Christmas. I actually liked the way it looked a lot, might be willing to give her the belt on Christmas and tell her the holster is to follow. Either way, I have procrastinated way too much and need to get this figured out by the weekend to insure I get what I am going to get in time.

I. Still fairly new to USPSA style shooting but I use the Blade Tech inner and outer belt setup with a BladeTech holster and standard magazine pouches with Tek Lok. Using with a G17 and 4 mags, pretty happy.

I like the CompTac holsters better though, I use both with the belt attachment not the dropped and offset or Tek Lok.

All can be had an Amazon usually. CompTac direct is about 8 days and have colors.

I’ve read though that the BladeTech dropped and offset mount at least isn’t legal in some causes, as the angle can cause the muzzle to point at the shooters calf if they have a wider stance.

I’m looking at Weber Tactical and now Red Hill for a heavier duty holster if I upgrade.

Get her a bottle or Marmite and a bottle of Vegemite and She'll FORGET all about the holster not being there in time! I wouldn't get my gf shooting accessories unless she specifically asked for them, that could go sideways very easily with women. They think jewelry, clothing and stuff that blings.

As I mentioned in the other thread we are more of a vitameatavegamin household.

You don't know my girlfriend, or our relationship. This is exactly what she asked for, months ago. She told me not to spend any money on anything else and to put it into savings for a big purchase we are saving together for.

She has very bad back problems and this summer was the first time in 16-18 months she had been able to go to matches again. She feels a better supported rig will help with back issues. We also bring a zero gravity chair with us to matches which is pretty funny looking to see. So anything I can do to keep her shooting with me I will try.

It's for competition, not carry. She loves to shoot, but I don't think I could ever get her to carry.

This is probably a dumb question. Does the belt/holster have anything to do with what class you're shooting? We always shoot limited or production. Just want some extra support for her, no optics on our guns.

I always went to BladeTech until I discovered Blackpoint Tactical. They use a combination of kydex and leather that I find to be most secure-- stays right in place-- and most comfortable. I know concealed carry is not an issue here, but just FYI, these holsters fit very close and work best for me for concealed carry. All my transactions with them have been quick and smooth.

On their site, the "Leather WING" is the one I use. http://www.blackpointtactical.com

Production (and SS) have considerable limits on holster design (think IDPA-type holster). Limited permits race type holsters.

If extra support is your main goal, and she wears trousers with belt loops, I find the Wilderness Instructor type belt, 1.75" with the extra stitching for stiffness, and worn in the belt loops, to provide much more support than an inside/outside belt combination, and with less weight/bulk. And for a holster, I always go with BladeTech, but stay away from their TechLok attachment for holsters. Best support for a holster is provided by a wide spread belt loop attachment (no matter what type of belt system you end up with). TechLok is fine for mag pouches.

Her pants don't fit big belts. This is the problem. We shoot limited 90% of the time for the extra five rounds it allows us. Only time we shoot production is when there is a huge field of production and small amount of limited shooters. I figured the smaller inner belt in these types of setups would work with her lady pants.

I just want her to be comfortable when we go.

ETA just looked it up, this would force her into limited it looks like. Not that it matters that much as we usually load our mags full anyways.

I have the Safariland inner/outer setup, and the inner is 1.5" while the outer is 1.75". You can also get the Wilderness instructor belt, with the extra stitching for stiffness, in 1.5" width.

IIRC, the Blade-Tech DOH (Dropped and Offset Holster) with Tek-Lok I got for my G34 is easily-changed for belt size and to add/remove the drop & offset bit.

I cannot find it on Blade-Tech's site, but I see them for various pistols on Amazon, Midway, etc.

I got mine, and a Blade-Tech dual mag carrier, for either Christmas or my birthday, several years ago. (Never did get around to trying USPSA, though. Maybe now that I'm retired and have Time?)

Thanks guys. I have ordered her a new belt. She opted for a leather gun belt verses a comp belt. Wanted her to try on my Armour Belt to see if it would fit through her belt loops, it did, and she said she wanted one of those instead, so that's what she is getting. Too bad it won't be here anywhere near Christmas. I have one other present I already got her, now I need to find one more so she has more than one box to open on Christmas day. Probably one of her favorite candies or some other inexpensive item.

Guess she can get her race belt for her b-day if she still wants one in addition to her new Armour Belt.
