So, yeah, we already had 3 dogs, 4 cats and 5 horses. Now make that 4 dogs, 4 cats and 5 horses Smile Roll Eyes Big Grin

Backstory: Wife's mom got Freida about 6 months ago after her husband passed away and he had urged her to get a big dog for protection. She took her to training, but was not very consistent after getting her home and had trouble with her jumping on her.

Last week she jumped on her walking down the stairs and knocked her down the bottom few stairs. Luckily she wasn't injured but felt like Freida was just too much for her. We live on a farm and with coffeeaddict's background in shelter management/dog behavior we felt pretty good about being able to bring her in and join our pack. It will take a while for her to get integrated because Gunner, our cattle dog, does not like other dogs. We will take our time - it took about 6 months when we took in Jackson. No rush, she's a real sweetie, about 8 months old.

Anyway, say 'hey' to Frieda, took these pics earlier today - we took her with us on a 5 mile hike, she did great:

Pretty girl!

Back in the late 1960s when I was living in Puerto Rico, I had a GSD named Frieda von den Inseln. She was really sweet and a fast learner, died very young of a kidney infection.

Great, she sure is a pretty girl. I like her non conventional name too. Wink

Hopefully your wife's mom is attached and can continue a relationship with her. That would be a nice thing for the family!

Good looking pup!

BTW, you are really going to find out why they call them German Shedders, and she looks to be a long coat. It could be worse, you could have two GSDs like I do...........Dyson and Shark pet vacuums work the best.Big Grin

Beautiful girl! Our GSDs Jake and Janie send their best wishes to her.

We got our daughter a Roomba for the shedding problem with her GSD. After seeing how effective it is, my wife’s decided that’s what we’re getting for Christmas for the problem with our two.

^^^^^ That is one pretty, smart-looking pup! Love the gold fur around her neck. Smile

Good on you for taking her on - will be nice for the MIL to be able to visit her. Hope your cattle dog opens up to Freida soon.

Thanks guys! Follow up to answer a couple questions:

Grandma lives about 6 miles away, so she will get to see Frieda often.

She is indeed as smart as she looks. She figured out immediately that Grandma was a soft touch and she wasn't going to make her mind. That's fine with the little couch potato poodle she has, but doesn't work so well with a GSD.

She came home with us last Sunday and has already learned that she is not allowed to jump up on anybody, she doesn't even try any more. We are walking her every day and making sure she gets plenty of exercise.

And yeah, we have a Roomba and are already seeing that it must be emptied every morning and have run it twice today to try to stay on top of the shedding...We thought Gunner the Blue Heeler ACD was bad! Eek

She and Gunner are way further along in the introduction process than we were at this point when we brought Jackson home. They have to stay on a leash and stay separated, but we had them stay with us in the living room after dinner last night and they finally settled down.

It took 6 months before we could let Gunner and Jackson loose together. I absolutely love this video of them playing together, they are best buds now:
