So, you like yours double sharp then?

Another guy that just uses his bench grinder. I do about five passes per side and yes, you do NOT want a knife sharp edge one these.

doesn't mean you should

I use a bench grinder or a belt sander.
The angle is much different than a knife. More like a 45 degree so I’d keep the same angle as the new blade but make it sharp.
If you make the angle too shallow and sharp, the blades will dull much more quickly.

Angle grinder. Then a bench grinder to remove the burr.

I've sharpened hundreds+ of blades this way.
But your blade is not the same make. Ours, brand new had a coating to keep us ignoramuses from cutting ourselves and it would wear away in the first minute of use. Then would be sharpened twice a week as they were commercial use.

I bought a sharpener called 'Sharpal' off of Amazon. Works great. If needed, you can sharpen the blade while it's on the mower.

I see he agrees with the forum advice: angle grinder and flap disc or bench grinder.

Always just used a file until I got a Work Sharp a few years back. Takes about 1 minute per blade with it.

Use a light touch to get a nice sharp edge. I don't obsess about having the perfect angle.

Even with a sharp edge, once you mow a few times the blade will be somewhat rounded again.
I don't go crazy over mower blades. I sharpen them at least twice a year, giving them a nice edge - and I don't need it to be razor sharp.

I've also always read that you want to slice the grass as cleanly as possible rather that smashing the ends off.

That's my approach as well. Except I only do it once a year when I swap the plow out for the mower deck...mainly because my yard is pretty much a crabgrass and mole habitant, football/kickball field, and bike racetrack anyway, and just needs to be short not fancy.

I always had 2 sets of blades for my 22 HP Kubota Zero Turn. I generally changed them every 4th mowing of my 3 acre yard. Took about 10 minutes to make the change with a hydraulic jack and an impact air tool. I sharpened them with an angle grinder and metal wheel. My lawn looked great.

I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown

I just use a hand file and it's easy for me to follow the original angle while in the vice. Takes me less than 10 minutes.

I think you were right all along here.

Picked up some new blades at Home Depot today got home and unwrapped them and this is the edge on them, I could have sworn I read in a review that someone said they came “dull”.

Those look similar or exactly the same as mine. Absolutely no need to sharpen them.

OEM or aftermarket?

It's possible that someone could've bought a blade that should've failed QA/QC. However, it's more likely they didn't know what they're talking about as they allow anyone to post reviews regardless of knowledge.

I may be old school, I just use a flat hand file. I like mine on the sharp side.

Once back on, I keep the cutting height reasonable and try to avoid hitting things.
