That's a very good question.

It's the standard one at the Japanese market.

Should one assume it's the MSG version?

Yup! The "Americanized" version produced on the west coast cut out the MSG that most American's like to avoid.

Japanese version: “Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil, Soybean Oil), Egg Yolk, Vinegar, Salt, Monosodium Glutamate, Spice, Natural Flavor.”

U.S. version: “Soybean Oil, Egg Yolks, Water, Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Sugar, Mustard Flour, Red Wine Vinegar, Rice Vinegar, Yeast Extract, Natural Flavors.”

Natural Flavors

Ah, yes...the ubiquitous "natural flavors"; seen in almost everything. Never defined. God only knows what that really is.

Yup, and then there's Blue Plate. my fav. Only one using just eggs yokes and not whole eggs, just like homemade. The "rumors" about added sugar are bogus.

We are a Duke's household, but I might have to try Blue Plate.

I see, on the website, that Publix carries this product, but I can not find the price on the website. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

They're usually very close in price if that helps.

Duke's pretty much all we buy. In the event it's sold out, we'll pick up Blue Plate. Bama is pretty popular around here, but I don't think it's that great.

I just got some Blue Plate, as Duke's was out, and they only had low fat Hellman's at both the local Walmart and Kroger stores. Apparently the 'Rona pockylips messed up the supply chain, and I needed mayonnaise now and didn't feel like driving all over God's green earth.

I haven't had Blue Plate in a while, as Duke's is my goto mayonnaise. Blue Plate is a little hard to find around here, so Hellman's is the backup usually, it's mostly what my mom used. Hellman's mayonnaise is more neutral in flavor, where Duke's mayonnaise has more "twang" to it.

Duke's is my favorite, and Hellman's and Blue Plate are tied for second, and Boar's head, which I can get for free is a distant third.

If you are a auto racing fan, in particular NASCAR, you won't use anything but Dukes. In a pinch, or if I am looking for a change, I will use Blue Plate as it was what I was used to as a kid growing up in South Louisiana.

Ok, how do you yell the difference between those that have more egg yolks listed between them? I've never seen anything but eggs listed...

I'm not a a great food taster... but living here in Greenville S.C. we've always used Duke's ... (it's made here and actually the recipe came from a sandwich shop here)... but at the beginning of the virus thing I went to the local Publix and they were out and so bought a jar of Blue Plate.... I could not tell the difference....

We've become a Duke's house, thanks to this forum. The only place to get it is Walmart and only one of the three in our area carry it. Wife picked up two 32oz the other day, can't risk running out!

I've eaten plenty of Duke's, never gotten what all the fuss was about.

Some of the Sir Kensington mayos wowed me (while others of their's didn't), but it was about $7 a little jar and there's not a lot of room in my life for that. Wink

To me Blue Plate has a bit more vinegary tang along with a more eggy richness than Duke's.

Dukes and Hellman’s for our household. I don’t think that I have noticed Blue Pate on the shelves here.

Duke's is good. Used to be a Hellman's house until we started shopping Aldi. Burmann's mayo is very good, we got Hellman's once since Burmann's and both our kids said it sucked. They made no complaints with Duke's.
