My wife and I have recently started watching some classic Cary Grant and Humphrey Bogart movies from the 40's and 50's. What are some of your favorite movies from that era? My wife works at the library and can bring home movies for free, so we're looking for some good recommendations. We've already watched: Casablanca The Maltese Falcon African Queen Treasure of the Sierra Madre To Catch a Thief Destination Tokyo Charade and a couple other Cary Grant movies Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ

Only one movie from the '50s: Forbidden Planet "I'm yet another resource-consuming kid in an overpopulated planet raised to an alarming extent by Hollywood and Madison Avenue, poised with my cynical and alienated peers to take over the world when you're old and weak!" - Calvin, "Calvin & Hobbes"

Then start with Lawrence of Arabia or Bridge on the River Kwai. Enough action to keep the "war movie" guys interested, and enough excellent plot/dialogue/scenery to interest anyone else. Generally regarded as some of the best films of all time, not just among war films.

Calamity Jane is one of my all time favorites, and one of the only "old" movies I've ever really watched. ____________________________ While you may be able to get away with bottom shelf whiskey, stay the hell away from bottom shelf tequila. - FishOn

Barely still in the 60's, and maybe not in the style of what most consider classic Hollywood, but for my money they don't get much better than Cool Hand Luke.

It's a Wonderful Life would be right up there. Breakfast at Tiffany's as well, but mostly because I'm in love with Audrey. Come to think of it, I'm in love with Donna as well.
