I have never worn, nor do I ever intend to wear sunglasses. But, purely as a matter of curiosity, what makes sunglasses "quality" or "junk?" I understand there is a significant amount of personal preferences and fashion aspects involved, but I'm looking more for measurable things that make one pair fit into one or the other category.
Light blocking / shading effectiveness
Clarity of the optics
Fit
Comfort
Quality of the frame and lens
Polarized lens as an option if desired
With sunglasses as with many things, you usually get what you pay for (and sometimes you don’t). Some top brands including ‘fashion’ brand names, you are also paying for the name imho.
I have worn Serengeti sunglasses for many years, glass lenses with excellent clarity and light blocking, but I recently bought a couple of pairs of Oakley’s from Woot (thanks for the heads-up SIGforum) and have been impressed with them and like them a lot.
Is a $200 or $250 pair of Maui Jim’s that much better than one of the $55 dollar Oakley‘s I just bought on sale? I do not know as I am not likely to buy a $200 pair of sunglasses.
