When a doctor does a EGD does he or she just look at the esophagus or do they also inspect the throat?

Egd is esophagogastroduodenoscopy so we look at the esophagus, stomach and duodenum( first part of the small intestine). We do see a little bit of the upper throat but it’s typically minimal. That’s done by ENTs typically with laryngoscopy and the airway(trachea) through bronchoscopy which is done by Pulmonology or critical care. Hope this helps.

Some do some don’t. They can look at the vocal cords and posterior pharynx. They don’t focus on your throat.

^^^^. Yeah, our guy looks at everything, but mostly focuses on the reason you are there to begin with...the E, the G, and/or the D. We don't have ENT around here, so it's worth taking a peek at the whole shebang as long as you're in there.
