Need to add to the landscaping and was considering some of those new fangled Black Diamond variety Crape Myrtles. Biggest draw for the wife is the claimed long/all season bloom times. None of our old standard verities do that. I'm attracted by the disease resistance, drought tolerance, overall appearance. Also the modest max heights for around the new deck possibly might help keep debris off the deck and out of the pool. Zone 7a if it matters. Full sun. If it was just one or two I would just try them, but I could use 6 or 10 or so. Collecting dust.

I have 2 that I planted last summer. They have had issues with powdery mildew this year, so much that I was concerned they might not bloom. But it has been a wet summer so far. They have just started to bloom here. I doubt the blooms will last more than 2-3 weeks though, so all season long sounds like a bit much to me.

Yea, part of the reason I was asking for real words experience. From the website. https://www.blackdiamondblooms.com Snip: Black Diamonds are a revolutionary new series of crape myrtles that provide unique beauty to your landscape and instant yard envy for your neighbors. Flawless black foliage emerges in early spring followed by masses of brilliant jewel-toned blooms that last until the first frost. Collecting dust.

Looks like a great plant, not for me in zone 5 however. Looks like you remove spent blooms to induce further blooming. "The days are stacked against what we think we are." Jim Harrison

I have crepe myrtles that are doing well, though not that type. They are pruned properly, not crepe murdered, and fertilized correctly. They have been blooming nonstop for the past five weeks. I would seek the advice of your local nursery or the University Extension service in your area. Some of the crepe myrtles in the Dallas area have succumbed to a sooty mold disease which is not fatal but cannot be controlled. Definitely check to see that that variety is resistant. That ad is somewhat over the top and sounds like a Realtor wrote it. LOL The disease is called crepe myrtle bark scale. Here is the link: https://agrilifeextension.tamu...e-a-new-exotic-pest/
