Ho Lee Fook!!! I was also thinking a blue bomb, not a yellow striped one. This is a level of dumbassery akin to the maintainer intentionally installing something backwards just because the manual didn't say your shouldn't. Life moves pretty fast. I have observed something like this only once in my career, and it was due to the Mk-82s fitted with Snake-Eye fins being released in High-Drag mode when they should have been dropped in the selectable Low-Drag mode. The releases were from 18k' feet and took forever to finally impact the ground about 1.5 miles short of the intended target. This happened on a training range in Nevada, so nobody got hurt and there was no real damage. There was however a local investigation and a lot of ass-chewing once the actual cause was determined. Eight Mk-82s at one time? Likely that was his entire loadout. That's unusual for a training exercise as you don't get much training from a "one pass haul ass" profile. If I has to guess I'd say it's a switchology error(or whatever the equivalent is in an electric jet). Icarus flew too close to the sun, but at least he flew.

So I am guessing they will cease all plans to continue the use of those particular bombs ? I mean geez, Three guys with bazookas would have taken out more people. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

Doubtful. The Mark 82 has been around in one form or another since WW2. Icarus flew too close to the sun, but at least he flew.

Close. Since sometime in the fifties. The one from WWII is the AN-M64A1. The one with the cylindrical body with that standard, big, square fin structure in the back. The Mk80's standard was the (then) new low drag, general purpose shape.
