Good am all. I’ve done a bunch of searches on the forum here, and overall the reviews for the Tundra, all generations, have been positive, minus the mph’s on the 5.7 v8. I’m considering getting rid of my trusty daily driver, my 04 CTD Ram. I’m over 270k now and feel its time for a change. The truck is to the point that alot of the “convenience” features are failing. Blend door went south years ago, so no defroster, A/C also shit the bed a few yrs. back, involved repair that I don’t care to be bothered with. Looking seriously at the ‘21 TRD Pro Crew. Can anyone tell me of their experience with that truck/engine combo, or similarly equipped models? Thanks all.

I have a 2021 Tundra limited crew cab and I love it. Bought new in 2020, I have about 24k miles on it. I live in a small rural town and work remotely full time, so I don't commute. Most of my driving is in rural areas. As you pointed out the MPG is pretty bad, best I've seen is 15 on the highway. I knew that going into it so that wasn’t a surprise to me. I've only done limited towing and off-roading. I have driven through some heavily drifted roads and was pretty amazed and what it could there. The crew cab is huge and I can still get 4 x 8 sheets of ply wood in the bed with no problems. My issues with the truck are minor so far. The interior scratches very easily, this is true on my wife’s highlander as well. Not all of my dash controls light up at night specifically the mirror controls. I also have no ability to fold my mirrors in. Limited must mean limited options on the Tundra Big Grin

Lack of seatback adjustment in backseat turned me off. Huge rear cargo but the rake was about 90 degrees. Just yesterday I gave a 21 Crew limited a close look, it has 110k miles, perfect service history and was extra clean. price was 39,800

Also looked at a 2021 double cab SR5 SX w only 13k miles $42,800. Appeared new but the backseat angle was a turnoff, at least when compared to the space and comfort of my old reliable 08 Ridgeline truckette.

Thanks guys, double, I’m currently looking at a ‘21 TRD as described in my title, it’s got about 24k miles they are asking 55k! Sticker probably wasn’t even 55k when the truck was new!

If oil keeps going up and gas prices follow, nobody will be buying trucks and prices will fall. That's the time to buy but is guess it would be next year when that happens (if it does).

Tundra'a are awesome trucks. I have had a couple gen. 2's and now have a 2010 crew max. all have been dead nuts reliable which is their hallmark.
Other than the fuel economy, which is about what I expect and the fact the pricing on used vehicles is nuts you cannot go wrong with one is my experience.

I have a Tundra of that platform. You will find it to be reliable and, if not problem free, it will be problem few. Just a couple of things though. From 2014+ there’s no external transmission cooler. There are plenty of instructional threads on the tundra forums that describe how to install one and where to get the parts so if you are inclined, you can put one on. The other thing is that the transmissions are sealed. That means that there’s no dipstick for checking or refilling. A drain and fill service should be done about every 120,000 miles But most people ignore it and have to replace the transmission at 300,000 miles. There is a service the dealer does. It costs a lot. I bought the equipment to do it myself. Spent about $100. It doesn’t take long and now I can do it whenever I want. That’s about it though. Otherwise your Tundra experience will be a good one

I have a 2020 to replace my 2005. Love it, no hybrid or turbo bullshit. The two downsides I will bring up the lack of a real transmission cooler, and the secondary air intake. Both have aftermarket fixes.

You can't go wrong with a Tundra but the mpg aren't great so not a good choice if you have to drive everyday for any type of distance. I'd shop around on www.cargurus.com and see what else is out there in your area and budget. I'm looking at a 2023 Tundra because I'd like slightly better gas mileage the new 6 cylinder offers over the outgoing V8.

All good points, thanks guys. I drive about 30 mikes per day round trip so while better mileage would be great, it’s not a deal breaker. I realize I’m within new truck territory, money wise, but have no interest in a twin turbo V6. Much prefer na. Sucks about the sealed tranny and no dip stick, I’ll never get used to that, and adding a cooler would be simple enough. Thanks all, I hope to check it out this weekend. Wonder if they will move in the price? I realize they will probably drop as they continue to age, and oil prices most likely rise, but my truck has some substantial mileage on it, and the tranny has been rebuilt 2x already as the 48RE is shit. Looking to dodge that bullet as it’s running great right now. Knock wood emoji.

Father in law has a 08 SR5 2wd with the small crew cab
Brother in law has a 2015 TSS pkg [like a TRD Sport I think] Crew Max 2wd

Both with the 5.7 V8, I believe. Can't say I've heard either of them have any trouble out of either & the 08 has made the CA>TX trip, both ways, a few times.

MY only complaint on either, is that the throttle can be a bit touchy off idle if you aren't used to it.

I bought an 07 new, SR5 double cab 2wd 5.7. Put 212k miles on it, until one evening in 2018 an errant wheel from the opposite side of the interstate bounced over the center wall and smashed the psgr side front. Insurance totaled it and gave me 12k.
I replaced it with an ‘18 Crewcab 4x4, quite a bit nicer truck. I currently have 51k on this one, most likely I will pass it to my son. These trucks are fairly easy to maintain, don’t sweat the transmission, just do the drain and fills, it will be fine. I too am not really fired up about v6 TT engines. I was hoping Toyota would pair the 5.7 with a 10 speed.
Honestly looking at a V8 Silverado if I give the Tundra to my son.

I've got a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro Crewmax in Lunar Rock and love the hell out of it. Great tried and true engine, good sound without being obnoxious, good suspension but in all honesty I don't offroad. I lost count of how many times I've been complimented on the color in parking lots and love my power rear window. I don't stick my foot in it and consistently get around 16 or so in mixed driving.

I drive a 2017 TRD Pro crew cab in Barcelona Red. Bought it new and love it. The TRD exhaust gives it a great sound. Been totally reliable and 16 mpg is the worst I've seen. Can get as high as 18, but I have a light foot. Mine came with the factory tow package. Putting it into Tow Mode (or Beast Mode as I call it) changes the shift points and throttle response and creates an exiting new driving experience.

You’ll love it.
I have a 2014 Limited Crewmax with the Falcon Sport Leveling system with Adjustable Tow/Haul options.

Your truck has a few electronic enhancements but the drivetrain is identical.

I have one major complaint about these trucks but it is not enough of a complaint to not buy them.
They absolutely need a true mechanical limited slip differential. This electronic auto LSD (which actually isn’t auto because you have to activate it) works better than nothing but this truck would be an absolute monster with a true LSD.
I’ll get one installed eventually.

I have 107k miles and just a couple small things I have had to replace.

I HIGHLY suggest using 5w30 instead of 0w20.
The truck runs so much smoother and quieter. They recommend 0w20 in the states for mpg numbers all the other countries recommend heavier oil.

I switched to 5w30 a few changes back and wish I would have done so immediately upon getting the truck.

Change the oil when the computer says service required. Don’t try to go 7000+ miles between changes like some people do. You’re going to be using a synthetic oil so change it cold/cool or it’ll splash everywhere. The oil drain plug faces the passenger wheel. If you change it warm the oil will shoot all over the wheel and rotor. Trust me. I actually cut a milk jug and use it to funnel the oil downward into the collection pan. Cleaner that way. I hated the oil filter change so I bought a Baxter performance kit to a conventional filter. The adapter has an anti backflow design that keeps oil in the filter housing after the motor is off. No oil pressure starvation on start up

^ Fumoto valve + drain hose? Should help with directing it where you want it.

I have owned several Tundras, 2017 limited, 2018 trd off-road and 2019 TRD Sport, all 4x4 Crewmax models.
If you are looking for a super reliable truck, with low cost maintenance and parts, doesn’t get much better than a Tundra.
However, even their loaded models are low tech compared to some of the competitors.
I prefer vehicles to be simple, low tech.

This. Slows down the flow quite a bit but I drain it straight into the old jugs for a super clean change.
