Ketchall is the name of the metal box like traps you're referring to. They work well, if you do buy one make sure it is compatible with the flexible tube which fits into the top of the trap.

The mice when initially caught see light coming from the tube, think of it as escape route, climb up and then drown in the mason jar of water the tube attaches to.

We had a big mice problem in the crawl space. Critter control put bait boxes about every 12 feet. They believe mice are lazy and will not go very far out of their way to eat explaining why they put so many bait boxes. When the bait got hit hard, they worked until they found an entry point and closed it up. Took more than a year before the bait stopped disappearing. The boxes are checked every quarter as part of the service of a regular pest control company.

I mention this because, depending on the area, you may want to have more than 2 or 3 traps set out or you might want to move the traps around.

This right here.

Put a dab of peanut butter in the middle and then wait.

I have these, and also use regular snap traps ,,

tip on the snap traps, take a cotton ball and load it up with peanut butter, work it in well, and then tie it on the trigger with a bread tie,

the bastiges will pull on the cotton to get the peanut butter and set off the trap,

For those of that use the sticky traps. Do you wait for the rat to die before disposing? really dont want to try and have to grab the paper with a live reat on it.
We have a crawl space that has some unwanted guest. I just put down 16 snap traps and a few bait stations. I got one with the poision and he dead and can't find the dam body and the smell is horrible. Might remove the bait statsions due to this reason.
I can't locate where they are coming in and neither can two pest companies. I am having to pull up the vapor barrier and fill in any holes with concrete or a mix of steel wool and spray foam.

I caught a mouse on sticky trap once and he was pissed. Keep your fingers clear. While I will hurt a mouse, I don't care for having to do it after the catch.
I also don't like poisoned rodents stinking up the place in the walls. Nor the possibility they get outside and sicken a predator.
This is why I lake the Jaws traps.
