Coffee Canister Questions

I buy coffee from Sam's Club usually in ~2.5 lb bags. I want to get a canister to help keep it fresh. Any recommendations?

It doesn't have the capacity I'm looking but I can get two.

Also, are the weights for the capacity of beans vs. grounds mixed up here? I'd expect the capacity for the grounds to be more than the beans.

I have two of the larger ones. Great cannisters. I can get almost 1.5 pounds of ground beans in one. I rarely fill them that full though. Generally 2/3 full to leave room for the long handled scoop. Still haven't found a use for the little jars they come with because we don't backpack any more, but they are a nice touch. Each one holds about enough coffee for one pot.

I bought two of these (16 oz), but they're out of stock. Really like them so far. I buy BRCC Just Decaf (ground) and they seem to keep the coffee fresh. I used to store my coffee in the freezer and read that was a big no-no. Paid $25 each for these...

Another to consider Airscape containers (they've worked really well for me so far).

See now this one shows the capacity for grounds more than for beans, which makes sense to me.

Thanks fellas. Still deciding but the OXOs have the capacity and are the most economical.

Wouldn’t ground coffee occupy more volume than beans? ie fluff factor?

No. The beans have the fluff factor. Much more voids between the beans.

Think about when you grind beans into the original bag. There's a lot more room after grinding.

Correction: the little canisters came with the Coffee Gator French Presses we have. The large canisters themselves are worth $25 each. Very well made. Their French presses are very solid as well.

Been using a pair of now discontinued Rubbermaid 4.3L tall square base containers for well over a decade. We place some of those small inflated plastic shipping bufferbags to fill the space as the bean levels go down. We buy 5 pound or a pair of 3 bags of beans at a time.

Looking around Amazon, if we were to "upgrade" the $19.80 Star 22oz units look pretty good. Would probably need 3 or 4.

I bought our canisters from Airscape as well. Added bonus: the company is out of Missoula, MT, and as near as I can tell, they’re made there.

We use the OKO ones with the SS airlock too.

Don't think it makes much difference on what you use for coffee too much, so any of them that seal well will work fine.
Just get what works or looks well for you.

I liked the OXO pop feature that makes them real easy to seal.
