That rug really tied the room together. |
Check out this amazing footage. So sad to see such history abandoned to decay with not a single fuck given. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-q7ZVXOU3kM&t=119s ______________________________________________________ Often times a very small man can cast a very large shadow

I thought that was great It also lead me down a black hole of YouTube links I love these abandoned places There is a former Cold War rocket laboratory near me that is essentially a superfund site so, in spite of being located in prime northern Virginia real estate, it just sits Were I younger and more mobile I would be damned tempted to jump the fence and explore Now I just look wistfully as I drive past it to visit the new cabelas nearby —————————————————— If the meek will inherit the earth, what will happen to us tigers?

I'm not entirely convinced they were in there without permission but it was still fun. _____________________ Be careful what you tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you.

Some types of rocket fuel were exceptionally toxic. I would stay out.

That would be a fun place to explore. There are some very cool abounded places around the DC/Baltimore area I've been in. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. That was cool! It reminds me of that show on Science Channel - Mysteries of the Abandoned 'veritas non verba magistri'

Wasn't aware they'd built as many Buran orbiters as they did. Cool either way. The Enemy's gate is down.

Any time I click on one of these is no less than an hour of watching suggested videos. One of our members lives in a Superfund site in Loudoun, is that the one you were talking about? Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

I remember back when they used to burn off unused rocket fuel every so often. Clouds of smoke, always wondered how they were getting away with it. I'd love to get back there and explore. Hell, is other people! J-P S

There are some old TB hospitals around the DC area. Very cool to explore but skirting the lines of trespassing. Some buildings are falling apart. Last time I was in one was with a few cops. It was funny when we ran into some people there. The officers I was with politely told them they should leave. Some have been torn down in the last few years. I will not post locations on an open forum because too many people look for location info and then vandalize them. Hit my email on my profile and I will send you some info. In DC there are a few places I've visited all with permission. There is an old underground trolly station and tunnels under Dupont Circle. It is very cool. They have been trying to make it an art thing and I think some of the raw beauty isn't there anymore. I think there are ways to get down there but I don't know how anymore. It would have to be part of a tour or something with an event they might do. The McMillan Sand Filtration Site in DC if interesting. Huge underground sand filters you can walk through. At one time there were some tours. These were done pretty quietly but all legal. Not sure where to look anymore but I would think someone with access is still doing them. When I went there was a DC councilman who wanted to build on the site and was doing this as a PR thing. St. Elizabeths Hospital in DC. You need permission and a guide to walk around this places since Homeland Security now owns it. Again a very cool location but I don't think they will let you in any of the buildings anymore. One of the best views of DC is from an overlook here though. That view is worth the trouble of working out access. Also in VA, I've been in the old Lorton Reformatory. Again this was part of a tour. The best places have been some of the old TB hospitals. Unfortunately, I think more the half of the ones I've been in have been torn down or burned by vandals. _____________________________________ Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. I have relatives that live on Ohau. A number of years ago they said there was talk about opening up the some large underground military installations for tours. A short time later no more information. Answers like I don't know what you are talking about. Makes you wonder.
