Why don't we use water hoses on rioters anymore? It's such an efficient tool. It's non lethal. The rioters get a shower. There's no hand to hand combat. People get dispersed.
The fire dept REALLY doesn't need to get involved - just give the equipment to LE...... and I would guess there would be an issue with all the electronics people carry these days....
Why don't we use it anymore? I think it's an overlooked or forgotten resource.
Any thoughts?

Because our leaders have become soft. They used to issue wooden batons to cops, so they could beat some sense into people. But soon some bleeding heart said that doesn’t look good, we should do it differently.
And lawyers.
They have successfully sued every police department for so many minor things that using a water cannon on rioters would start so many lawsuits that the cities won’t even entertain the idea. But ohhh my civil rights were violated when those bad meanies rolled me over with 100psi water while I was “peacefully protesting”

This topic was previously discussed. The consensus was that the use of water cannon would evoke the crowd control methods of the Civil Rights era.

The DNC media(CNN, ABC,CBS,NBC,NPR,etc) would immediately whip out the Bull Connor Birmingham videos from the 1960s and draw the weak-minded into buying the comparison as proof that conservatives are racist.

So you are saying that the use of fire hoses (which are not necessarily "water cannons") are being avoided for political reasons? To my mind, that makes the conservatives as bad as the leftists in favoring optics over reality. It is OK to let rioters burn down people's businesses as long as we don't look bad.

Do you remember the Seattle council member who stopped the public works dept. from pressure washing shit, im talking literal feces from someones asshole, off the public sidewalks because it was too reminiscent of the water cannons from the civil rights area?
According to the Times, Councilmember Larry Gossett “said he didn’t like the idea of power-washing the sidewalks because it brought back images of the use of hoses against civil-rights activists.”

We have an even better alternative to water cannons:
Use a few of these to funnel the crowd down an alley or street. Then disperse smoke in mass quantities to greatly reduce camera visibility, then launch a barrage of tear gas. Then send in the troops with gas masks and go full on hats & bats.

Bad optics. They are often associated with other countries repressive regimes and the press made their use impossible. I don't know if we even have them around anymore. Hoses were also used against crowds in the '60's too so we know what that means in today's world. The liberal side would be too upset if we damaged all those cell phone cameras too.

Wow. LMFAO. Damn, I had never heard of that.

Its Wisconsin right, lots of dairy farms, so lots of cows, with that, lots of manure....
So, a couple of farmers with one of these each going up and down the streets with the rioters, should make for an interesting time...
The optics aside, high pressure water spray is not always benign. Water pressure not metered properly can break bones, cause eye injury, perforate ear drums, penetrate skin.
I am more in favor of low pressure dye. Just turn them all blue and then arrest all the smurfs as they try to leave.

Here's a thought. No evoking any old B&W clips from the civil rights era, either.
Equip the good guys with beekeeper equipment, and put beehives on top of police cruisers.
If the riot persists...take an axe to the beehives, and drive around/through the riot.
Streets would be clear pretty quickly. Nobody's going to stop to torch car dealerships in the midst of 50,000 angry bees.

Whattaya talkin? They're still out there. We were just talking about this one here a few years back. Water cannon mounted at top center. See link Link See also Kalishnikov Schit
i agree they should be using the water cannons during these evening riots
these events are following a well-established pattern
semi legitimate protests with grandmothers and baby strollers during the day ... which morph into destructive riots after hours led by a whole other cast of radicals different from the day crew
establish a curfew for dispesral say 10pm or whatever. 15 minute order to depart
then out come the water cannons, pepper spray, and horse cops w/ paddy wagons
do that for a night or two and its over i bet
shows of weakness have allowed the riots to proliferate

Times have changed. After MLK was killed, Mayor Daley publicly told his police officers to shoot arsonists to kill, and shoot looters to maim or cripple.

I think thats a poor use for water
bullets and bean bag slugs I think are more appropriate

We should be using that sticky spray stuff. I also think we should classify all rioters as National Gangs, and treat them as federal crime violators. Get arrested during a riot. 20 years in the pen!!!!!!!!!!!
