In preparation for baking pies for Thanksgiving, Mrs Mark in Michigan is going to bake a practice apple crumble pie! That means that I get to practice eating it! Yum! Best regards, Mark in Michigan

WWhat a great idea! Now, how to subtlety suggest something like this to the wife "...you know, I saw on SF that one of the guy's wives was making practice pies for Thanksgiving..." or maybe, "you ever hear of something called a practice pie?" ETA: well, that didn't work, she saw right through me. Guess I'll have to bake my own freaking pie like she said. This message has been edited. Last edited by: architect,

Practice pie seems like a fine idea. In fact, maybe the idea should be formalized. A week or so before National Pie Day, say maybe on March 7th, that it be designated as Practice Pie Day. Over the Summer, a local radio host interviewed the head of the State Fair, and during the interview she was invited to participate in two fair competitions; a Slopper eating contest and a pie baking contest. She enjoys cooking/ baking, but being relatively new to the area she has complained about how difficult it is to bake a pie at this elevation...so, she intended to bake some practice pies prior to the fair competition to refine her family recipe, but supposedly she got busy, procrastinated, and ran out of time. So, she baked her competition pie a day or two before the event, and apparently her trusted recipe crashed and burned because it wasn't properly doctored up for this elevation, and she was forced to withdraw from the competition... ...so, although her original plan was to find a chivalrous "champion" as her surrogate in the Slopper competition, she could find no one and, already missing the pie competition, she felt a duty to compete...and lose with grace and some small sense of self-respect remaining.
