Does it hurt when you sneeze?
Does anyone else experience fairly severe but short lasting back pain when sneezing? About 90% of my sneezes produce an instant searing pain in my spine region, a few inches below shoulder blade level.

I can prevent it somewhat by bracing in a strong upright position.... standing is better than sitting.

It’s been going on for a year or two, I guess. Other than this I have no back issues and my back is strong... as a example I can back squat 400+ and deadlift 520.

Is this concerning, or am I just a violent sneezer?

I sneeze big and love it, talk to your doctor.

Not at all, and my body is in pretty bad shape.

Well, I've had my nose broken at least six times that I can confirm//remember, so it's an experience sometimes when I sneeze.

No. I find sneezing annoying, especially when I do 10-15 of them right after another. And it scares my cats.

Yes, and the pain is in the exact same place as you describe. Sometimes the pain is just annoying, other times, nearly debilitating.

No.
I’d be mildly concerned if it’s a relatively new symptom. Mention it at your next dr visit?

If this has been going on for a year or two, it’s a sign that something is amiss. Perhaps not your spine, but possibly connective tissue or nerve related. Muscles usually either heal or the injury would progress. At any rate, I agree at having either a doctor or legit sports medicine practitioner look at it.

Once I sneezed so hard I dislocated a couple of ribs . Work sent me home; their disability doc had to clear me, and it was discovered one leg was ¼" shorter than the other. A decade of lower back pain correctly diagnosed in two minutes by a doc protecting his employer's liability.

When I got home I put a scrap of 5mm underlayment down and stood, right foot on the wood. Man, what a difference. Immediate realignment, immediate relief. Shims on the heel, and all is well. I've since kicked off the 24/7 dress shoes but occasionally wear a padded shim in the R shoe.

Covid-triggered socks-only for months on end did trigger some foot pain but not back pain. Clearly, though, God intended me to live on a sandy beach.

Usually no, but occasionally yes. Mid back, but to the sides is where I recall that happening. Like someone popped me with a big rubber band.

Nope. Occasionally I will have sneezing fits due to sinus blockage but never any related pain. Talk to your doc.

Never, not even discomfort. This is not normal.

This is a red flag for a pulled muscle or something of that nature.

I have found if I blow air out of my mouth, like blowing out candles, while sneezing it will reduce any pain

Yes, until I had spinal fusion I dreaded sneezing. I'd see a doctor.

Not normal, you should teledoc your doctor and see what he says...I’d bet you have some kind of bulging disk issue and it is aggravated when sneezing

It's not like it's the first time in your life you sneezed, right? Do you remember if it always hurt every time you sneezed? If not, I would call a medical professional.

One time, I started coughing and the front of my head felt like it was about to explode. I called up my doctor, set up an appointment. Turned out it was just sinuses but it was the first time I experienced that pain.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Coughing.. if I'm laying on my back and I cough, I get some amazing pain and spasms that actually stop the cough half way through.

Only when my ribs are broken. In the past 10 years I’ve broken ribs five times on separate occasions. Then I dread coughing, sneezing, laughing, blowing my nose, hard breathing and rolling over in bed.

I'll just add that when you have heart bypass surgery, they send you home with a pillow to clutch to your chest when you cough. They neglect to mention sneezing, which tends to come on without warning. When you feel one coming on, you panic, look frantically around for the pillow and usually find it too late. Geez that hurts!
